L2M's 14R
07/27/12 2:16 PM

Painted the silver caps and heat shields & the bolts for the windscreen.
zx10 rear pegs--black from the factory
zx12 heelguards--black(until I can get mine powdercoated)
Painted the inside of the shield black, cant see thru the damn thing anyway.

I've got a few parts getting mailed today, nothing major. The bike runs like a champ.

The main thing I've noticed is that there is a Lot of heat around the feet, especially my right foot. Anyone else notice this? Damn, thought my boot was going to melt. It was 102 & 75% humidity tonight. It was also 117 degrees on the way home yesterday...it felt just as hot on my right foot. All in all, a great night...only had to dodge two vehicles.

Status:

Just installed the TiForce w/ Carbon can. The exhaust is from a pre-2012, so I wasn't sure if it would fit without incident. Well, it fits PERFECT. I've heard rumors that the pre-2012 exhausts would need to have the radiator bracket moved out a little for clearance, but it wasn't actually touching once I reinstalled everything. It was very close, so I installed two small washers between the block and the bracket for piece of mind. The exhaust went on with Zero issues. The TiForce exhaust is absolutely Gorgeous. Very Nice Quality & Finish.

I cranked it up and it purrrrrrs like a kitten....a very big, angry kitten, and I think my neighbors are going to hate me every morning. Once it drops to idle, its not too bad. The biggest problem I have is that EVERYTHING in this compound is concrete with open garage ports, the reverb is killer(But sounds So Bad ass.) I didn't take it for a spin yet, going to install the PC5 and upload a map from a Full 2012 Yoshi system that someone sent me until I can get it dynoed correctly.

I did install the GPRv4 damper yesterday, and I forgot just how nice they are. The bike feels so planted at all angles now. I know there are a lot of opinions on dampers, but I think a damper makes this bike (and the other two Ninjas) that much better. Would be nice if it actually came with a factory damper, but I'm stoked. This is the first stem/Scott's type I've ever had and I Love it. It gives the bike a much cleaner look and the install was all of 1o minutes. I can't say the same about the hyperpro ashtray contraption I had on the ZX12 or the hyperpro that I had on the 2006 zx14. There are also no issues with using Risers. Risers and the damper on my 2006 did not get along well...I was always busting the rubber washers. From what I've read, there is a fix for this problem.

The front fender will be swapped out to a zx10 fender in the morning also. I went ahead and bought a set of brackets to keep it simple. I've contemplated keeping the stock fender, but I just got to see it installed for myself. Besides, the stock fender is going back to the dealership to get painted because they scuffed the piss out it when they delivered it from Dubai.

As for the lights, I will install those tomorrow also. I have sylvania superstar somethings that I got for the low beams and LED corner lights. I'm still up in the air on what to do with the other lights I purchased. I will have to fit the fender and see how I want to mount the LED's---may not use them at all. I am also installing a red led strip on the bottom of the plate, but I need to fabricate a bracket. I think for now, I will just install the wiring...who knows.

I did manage to pull the front blinkers apart with a little heat and shoot them with a black so they will match the blinkers that I already painted. I would like to mount those LED's on the inside as running lights, but I'm still working on how to do it. The lights I ordered from ebay are a lot bigger than I planned. I have 4 days to figure it out.

I wanted to say thank you to Lee(Smokin'), Brock's, and 9/10ths for the help with figuring out the new fairings. Links=====>

Yup...those TiForces are nice mufflers.Yours looks very cool.Have a set of Yoshis comin today...should be really sweet with my Green bird. And that pipe diameter...yeah...I had a helluva time trying to get a straight answer from ANYONE (the pipe mfgs anyway)about the fitment. No one was talking.Glad your Ti fit on there.

I can't tell by looking...you have TiForce headers on there as well? That's your stock header sitting back there right?

I went and looked at my (previous)14R headers....apparently,there's NO cat in the header pipe(s)...only a flow separator. The cats are in the mufflers....awesome!

Yes, full system. After seeing the factory headers, I'm honestly impressed. Those headers with no cat would flow really, really well. I would guess well enough to not need a new full exhaust--unless you are an avid racer. I got a great deal on the TiForce, so I went ahead and pulled the trigger(I think the owner thought it was too loud & returned to stock. MINT!!!) I am very happy with them. The sound is absolutely AMAZING...can't wait to get it opened up on a nice stretch of pavement.

Kinda why I wasn't 'totally' happy about buying an 1100 dollar system from Brock's.His headers actually didn't look much different diameterwise than the stock one...but much lighter of course. But they wouldn't give any info at that time about diameters for the midpipes....guess they didn't want me to get slip-ons!It looks much better with your factory cans gone....good one!

Thanks, Grn. I agree with you on the entire lack of information & abundant mis-information in regards to the pipes, midpipes, cats, etc. If I were buying a new system, I would remove the cat from the stock headers and use black slipons. The force of the exhaust coming out of this system makes me giggle. It's crazy.

I've purchased Brock's system for my 2006, and loved it. I wanted to go a different route this time around. I HAD to have black cans & I didn't want to spend a lot of cash. Brock's alien head with ceramic coating was an option, but it was around $1400, the other option I liked from him was the duals which were even more expensive. I really lost my ass when I sold my 2006, I'd rather not take another hit by buying new parts. I've managed to get a used full system with the can I wanted for $700. It's actually hard to call it used...it had less than 1000 miles on it.

I must admit, this really cleans up the look of the 14R. Lighter too, which ain't a bad deal.

Yeah...you always find out how you'd do it different....AFTER...you've gone the other route.I know....

That stock header,it doesn't have a cat in it.Just the wavy metal flow separator in there. The pipe(s)are open from the head to the muffler intake. The cats are in those two cannons. So the real only advantage of replacing that factory header really is just the weight saving(s).Which really isn't that important for street app's...IMO.You can get really good flow by just choosing the right slip-ons.Which you did.Perhaps a very small increase in diameter SOONER along the header there...that's pretty much what Brock did with his full systems it looked like to me.His were tapered up to the head. The factory ones...same diameter all the way into the split. How much difference can THAT honestly make?I don't think very much...not for over a 1K for his system(s)...they are quality for sure.

The diameter as it enters and leaves the split...it's over 2"...which is larger than the header openings.I can't see any restriction with that. This bike powers so easily...it's hard to judge what if anything actually increases anything...know what I mean?I'm trying to stay away from my PCV this next bike.Just run her with my slips. There IS a sacrifice mapping with those 'extra' systems...I could tell....she wasn't as factory smooth as before. Not bad really, just not quite the same...which is why I got her in the first place.

Lots of guys get these full systems expecting some sort of huge thrust improvement(i think). If you're not racing for time....it's really kinda overkill...I'd say.For me it was anyway.I wouldn't go there again...you can get a very very similar effect by gearing and timing changes.WAY cheaper. And the factory ride quality will remain.

You're so right, Grn. If I did it again, I would find a nice set of 2012 slipons in black. This system is a bit loud, but it sounds great. When I was shopping around for systems, I couldn't find exactly what I wanted at a good price. The Yoshi R77 carbon slipons were about $1000.
(((At one time I had it narrowed down to the Yoshi, V&H CS1-Black, and the Leo's---for some reason I was really obsessed with getting the 'perfect' look.)))
In the end, I paid the same amount for a full titanium system with carbon can & a PCV.
The bikes manners are fine above 2K rpm...its a bit lumpy below that, but fine once it warms up.

That pipe looks good. Unique and different from most of the others.

And good point about the stock header not being a restriction. When I was taking my stock exhaust off, I was a bit suprised as well as a bit disgusted to see the only restriction in a stock system is the mufflers. Slip ons and the stock header are probably gonna be just about as free flowing as a full aftermarket system.

But, glad I got the Brock's full system. You only live once, right? And it sounds incredible.

Great looking bike, Lie. Love the exhaust choice you made.

Yeah but Brocks stepped design is a work of art.I do agree about the slipons.I don't want anything too loud on my next bike.

If you've yet not put the fairing back on, I might suggest being EXTRA careful with every move you make when doing so.

I lived and learned........the hard way.

Taking it apart was much easier after watching Smokin's video. And putting it back together was not a lot of fun. The biggest pain to me was hanging the front of the fairing where the slots are at...painful. I did lube all the grommets with chain oil to help it go together a little easier.
Now I need to go back and reinstall the corner lights because one of the LED corners is out? wtf..
I'm also building a radiator guard.

I love the deep roaring power of the Brock's dual system. Loud as I can get by with is my motto.

LOL

But to each his own.
