Rear Sets
12/23/14 11:28 PM

Hello Folks,

I am making the jump from cruisers (Harleys) to sport bikes and have been looking very seriously at the ZX14. I'm also looking at the BMW K1300S, but I have to say that the ZX14 really calls to me. My biggest concern at the moment is the comfort level, particularly foot position. I realize a bike feels different when it's moving compared to when it's sitting on the show room floor, but the stock foot position seems a little cramped with my knees up in my stomach. Granted, I'm 6'1" and about 270lbs, but I am wondering if any of you have used rear sets to move your pegs down and back on your ZX14s. If so, how did you like them, did they do the trick, etc?

I'd love to hear any feedback, especially regarding rear sets, but I'd be glad to hear anything else you have that might help me in my decision making process.

Thanks!!

Most rearsets won't lower your feet down more than about 1/4". You can go back about a half inch.
The stock height is the second hole from the bottom and all the way forward.

IMO, a half inch doesn't make a big difference in comfort. I have seen footpegs that attach to the stock bracket but they have an arm that drops down about a half inch. Bar risers might help a bit too.

Buell's work very nicely.Just make sure you get the FRONT rider's pegs...don't ask how I know..they look virtually the same in the pics...but they aren't.

Thank's for the replies. folks. Do you find many "larger" people riding the ZX14 and saying that they are comfortable on them?

I know I'm asking some really elementary questions, but I have zero experience with sport bikes.

I'm 6'-3" and don't have a problem. I did install some aftermarket pegs that are just the standard knurled kind. I don't like rubber pegs. Slippery in the wet and too sticky in the heat for foot adjustments.

Seems to me a lot of bigger people ride 14s. One reason is probably because most sportbikes are SO small. If you're contemplating a sportbike and your a bigger guy, a 14 is what you want for the best comfort but it might not be as comfy as a cruiser.

I'm 6' 0" with a short inseam, and I felt a little cramped with the stock pegs, so I put on a set of Murph's lowered pegs. Much better now.

BigBloke ... I looked at Murph's site and they look promising. Do you have any worries with ground clearance on your pegs?

I'm running the stock ride height and so far, haven't even scraped the peg feelers yet. Still just getting to know the bike, so I haven't been completely killing it in the canyons yet, but I've gone pretty good and nothing has touched down.

Well, I routinely scrub the foot boards on my Harley but I'd be willing to bet that won't happen on the ZX.

Thanks for all the feedback guys.

06bp, those look good. There was a guy selling something just like on bikeland years back and it seemed everyone was happy with them. Pretty simple. I don't see how they wouldn't work. $85 would be worth not having to measure and make the part yourself. + you still have pivoting foot pegs if you scrape. ...and the stock footpegs and bracket are a little lighter than rearsets.

If it aint to late sammy6 why not take a look at the brill web site...motorcycle ergonomics. you find the bike(s) you are interested in, enter your height and it both tells and shows knee angle and amount of lean for you on that bike. I have found it useful these last few years while considering other mounts. If you get near to being serious about the K1300 find an owners site and gen up on rear drive bearing failure. It might steer you to the best bike on the planet and save you a few bucks. Yep you got it the fabulous ZX14, and if you come to this excellent site you get Rook, Hub and Wolfman &Co.on how to care for that babe for free!!
