2022 Hayabusa
09/08/21 5:55 PM

Anyone seen the new Busa in person or ridden one? A friend of mine picked his up 2 weeks ago. I gave him a ride to the dealership and we helped uncrate it. He got the silver and red one. I have to say it's the nicest looking Hayabusa they've come out with. Nice design, real sharp looking.

Another question. Has anyone had an encounter with the new one? If so, how did it turn out?

I met this friend and his cousin for lunch last night. His cousin has a 2021 ZX-10R. He said they did a roll on the day before. Both completely stock. Roll on at 40 mph in 2nd gear. He said the 10R pulled him right away by a few bike lengths. When they hit around 170 he said he caught the 10R and passed it and hit the 186 speed limiter. His cousin said when his 10R hit 170 it just quit accelerating so he figures the speed limiter stopped him at 170 otherwise he would've gotten the victory. I thought all of the bigger sport bikes had a 186 limiter. I don't know why his would kick in at 170. Weight advantage of course goes to the 10R, I suppose about 100 lbs. lighter? No weight advantage for either rider though, they both weigh 190 lbs. I think the new Busa is rated at 188 hp at the crank. I'm not sure what the new 10R is rated at.

Of course my friend wants to race me with his Busa after he gets it piped and flashed, if someone can break into the ecu, which I'm sure is just a matter of time. He had a BMW S1000RR before the Busa. We raced a couple of years ago, 4 times to be exact. Same situation. 40 mph in 2nd gear. He tried race mode, sport mode, and a couple of other modes I've never heard of. He said he even cheated one time and took off in 1st gear. I beat him all 4 times. I'm hoping I can do the same against his Busa. The only thing is I want to smoke him really good.

Anyway, to any of you that haven't seen the new Hayabusa in person, it's a great looking bike.

I got a decent ride on a friend's new Busa. It's a VERY nice bike. Looks great. The bars are definitely closer, which is a good thing compared to the Gen 2, and the handling was good. It felt like it turns in a bit quicker than the 14R. The motor was a bit of a disappointment. However, the bike had only 550 miles on it, AND the guy had it in power mode 2, which I didn't realize or I would have had him change it back to P1. P2 dulls throttle response but still gives full power, according to what I have read. When I really got into the throttle, it had good power, but it's not a 14R. Again, it's a VERY nice bike with a lot of features and has more tech than the 14R, e.g., quickshifter and cruise control. Interestingly, he also has a '21 14R and says he likes the looks of the Busa better (so do I), but, overall, likes the 14R more. I prefer the 14R, especially for the price differential.

My money is on the 14R. Suz didn't want to tempt fate and outdo the 14. Suzuki let Kaw have the final word. What a bunch of pussies.

My nephew works at the Suzuki dealership where my buddy bought his 2022 Hayabusa. I called him on Saturday and told him me and a few friends, including the one with the new Busa, were going for a cruise. He said he told his co-workers about it and told them he figured me and my buddy would race, 2012 ZX14R against his 2022 Hayabusa. He said his fellow employees said the new Hayabusa would smoke the 14R because your uncles bike is old and the new Busa is the fastest bike made with all of the new technology.

Well, we raced. Second gear roll on at 40 mph. My 14R has a Brocks Alien-head full exhaust, stock air filter with the screen removed, ECU flash by 2wheeldynoworks, and stock 42 tooth Vortex aluminum sprocket. Nothing fancy. You have to remember, too, the Busa is completely stock, including the cannon mufflers. I was looking over at him because I wanted him to take the hit to see if I could catch him. He nailed it and then I did. It was actually over right there. I pulled away instantly (according to him, like a rocket) and he said I kept pulling hard until I let off. I know they say the new Busa is tuned for more mid-range punch. I really couldn't tell because the results were the same as when I raced a 2014 Busa a few years back.

We'll try again someday when he gets his 4 into 1 pipe and maybe by then somebody will have the ECU figured out for flashing. Could be a different story. But for now, my nephew told his co-workers that the Busa got smoked by an old 14R.

I like the looks of the new busa but the reports I've followed over the last couple months haven't impressed me with the performance. I'll keep my Gen2 busa. I don't think they will get much more power out of the Gen3 with a flash. Suzuki bowed out of the game.
