Big Power turbo bikes 500-600 whp
07/28/12 3:18 PM

I know the big names in the Pro Street class are making big power with big name shops and big money backing them up but I'm curious if anyone (Average Joe) is making that king of power either in their street bike or race bike. I'm pretty set on trying to make that kind of power both with my ZX14 turbo and my (don't say it too loud now) turbo Hayabusa. I'm wondering if I'm just opening up a can of worms and should settle for ~400. I've got a regular job and don't have a 50K+ per year racing budget. Anybody making a ton of power that doesn't have big money backing them? Just curious. Thanks.

This is what I'm afraid of and exactly what I want to avoid. I'm just afraid "safe/cheap" horsepower won't be enough to run what I really want to run. I know you pretty much cannot make enough horsepower to get my 500 pound bikes to run a 4 anything in the 1/8th but I sure want to get close. Grudge bikes with total raceweight under 500 pounds? Yes. But I've got heavy, heavy, heavy street bikes. Yeah, I'm probably looking for something made out of unobtanium. Such is my lot in life.

Settle ,,, 400 hp,,,, Holy shit Smoke,,U B Mad Man lol. Ricky is doing some nice #'s with 320hp. I'm sure his boost will be 15lbs soon. If one one lb is worth 10 hp????? His 400 will be putting down some wicked #'s. Not 600hp I know but may stay together longer before needing a refresh ?

No matter, I look forward to your build I will try not to copy lol. Cheers

I'm pretty sure Ricky had the boost turned up a little more already when he ran up at MIR. I cannot see 188 MPH with only 320 horsepower. I haven't put the turbo 14 on the dyno since I've gotten it but I'm pretty sure it's up over 300 to the tire now and it has nowhere near 188 MPH 1/4 mile capability like Ricky's bike just ran. I know it sounds crazy to say "settle" for 400 horsepower but both the turbo 14 and the turbo Busa have enough turbo on them right now to exceed 400 to the tire without upgrading to a larger turbo. I guess it would have sounded better to word it maxing out what I already have vs "settling" for 400 horsepower but both are actually saying the same thing. What I'd like to be able to do it trap 150 or higher in the 1/8th mile with both bikes and then it's up to me to see how quick I can make them go given that MPH. I'm pretty sure 7's in the 1/4 mile won't be a problem with them but 4's in the 1/8th are likely to be elusive unless I make a bunch more power than 400. I'm going to do complete builds on both the turbo 14 and the turbo Busa engines to make sure I can stretch the power if I fall short of my performance goals. I just cannot accept my lowly NA 14 running the same times as the big turbo bikes but that's what happening at the moment. Low 5.50's and 131+ MPH are nothing to sneeze at but those numbers are just not acceptable for a turbo bike. IMHO of course. Keep your fingers crossed for me as I'm going to need all the luck I can get I'm afraid.

VF-22 on ZX-14, what Turbo do you have on the Busa ? Currently trying to work out which turbo for the 14R. Would love love to have 300 plus hp with stock compression as my bike must be dual purpose. Want the same bottom end below 3500rpm pull as stock,,, Smooth is a must for my purposes. Garret 30 to big me tinks ?

I cannot see 188 MPH with only 320 horsepower.

Valid Point, wish they would tell(not likely)lol

It's whatever turbo Richard supplied with the Stage II kit on the Busa. It came on the bike when I bought it. I spoke with him and he said 450 would be no problem for this turbo as long as I got the secondary injectors and computer to run them. Of course, a built motor is a given for this to happen also.

Sorry, I didn't mean to fall off the face of the planet like this. I've contacted Rodney Williford and we're heading back over there as soon as he gets back from his trip out of the country to try to coax a few more horsepower out of the Busa for now via a small boost increase and more radical tune. Switching from 110 Sunoco to C16 for safety reasons. I really think it's down on power from when we left as we're trapping 7-10 MPH less on average than others with the same (measured 285) horsepower. I want a real 300-310 to the tire and see what Sam can do with it. I'm thinking it's more like 250-260 now. Only trapping 127-128 now. He's cutting 1.36-1.38 60's consistently and low 5.50's 90% of the time and if we had big MPH it'd probably be high 5.30's. I'll let you know what transpires at Rodney's shop. The turbo 14 motor is out of the frame and just waiting on Dave to tear it down and rebuild it with new bearings, rings and an oil pump. His shop has been really busy lately and I cannot ask him to put aside a paying job to work on stuff we play with. Hopefully it'll be running before the end of the season but I'm not going to push it. NA 14 is waiting on a retune for MR12. Still running 5.50's on pump gas with Dave riding. Temptation has sprung up again though in the form of a beautiful showroom or better condition GSXR1000 that's race ready with the same paint scheme as the Busa. So much to buy. So little money....
