106,000 kms and counting

Ok boys, my early gen 1 zx14 will pass 107,000km soon and gets ridden every day, so how long will it last? Whats the highest mileage zx14 you guys have seen? What will let go first? I dont really want to spend au $10,000 to $15,000 to get a used gen 2 (or $20k+ for a new one) so what do I do? Is it viable to rebuild the motor? What about a stroker? Still lots of dollars involved right? Is there a marketplace for used dragbike parts? Where the big guys cycle parts regularly to ensure they wont fail? These might be fine for an easy street life.

Is the used gen 2 a better option all round? Already got the stroker crank plus abs etc

What do you guys think?

65865 miles....you got a loong way to go before you have to start worrying about replacing an engine it's not being drag raced along with normal use. I heard from one guy with a red 06 well over a hundred thousand miles and he still was doing top speed runs regularly.

I may stroke my engine to get more power and compression like brand new now that it's at 49,000 miles but it really doesn't need it.

I don't hear of anything wearing out on these engines. A crankshaft bearing breaks on rare occassion but that does not seem to be associated with wear. I'd think the normal things happen with use like cam lobes wear and rings get loose but it's got to be long time before that seriously impedes performance.

If I were you, I would check my clutch pack thickness. Yours is probably just about shot.
