The correct rear wheel weight is 9# 4.9ounces. This includes bearings, sprocket carrier with bolts & nuts, disc carrier, cush drive.

That's still less than 75% what my Carrazzeria weighs. Nice! It's been about 12 months since I balanced my checking account. As soon as get that done, I'm ordering some Rapid TEKs.

Sure helps to have friends. My dealer of choice is closed because of covic 19 but my mechanic came in and mounted the Dunlop's on my BST wheels. Damn they look good. Still waiting on sprocket and then I will mount them.

I got the front BST mounted today. The wheel weights with discs, bolts, Dunlop tires were as follows. The only difference in the Dunlops was the one on the stock wheel was a 120/65/17 with app. 1200 miles and the new Dunlop on the BST wheel is a 120/60/17.
Stock 2012 ZX14r front wheel, discs---27 pounds 14 ounces
BST front wheel, discs----------------20 pounds 11 ounces
Difference in weight-------------------7 pounds 3 ounces
The reason I went with the 60 aspect ratio tire instead of the stock 65 aspect ratio was it is slightly shorter which
should improve turn in slightly.

Good deal on the weight. It never occurred to me to use anything less than a 120/70 on the front but I suppose a 65 or a 60 would lower the front a little and also be lighter. You might be sacrificing a little on the contact patch too though. I think I may try that though. A 120/70 looks pretty round in profile. Have you noticed a 120/60 to appear somewhat more flattened off like a cruiser tire?

You may be right about the contact patch. At 78 I still ride faster than most of my younger friends but I must admit with more caution than I did 10 years ago. The shipper lost (apparently) my two Driven sprockets (41 & 43) so the supplier shipped another set which are again overdue. I got pissed and ordered a Vortex from Brock Sunday night. It showed up today and I weighed it. It is a 44 & it weighs 1 # 3.1 ounces. Great keeper of the weights on everything how heavy is this. Looks heavy to me but beautifully made.

At this point, I'm a less likely to take risks with my skin too. Also, the bike is too nice to wreck. Kind of ironic in a way.

The 45 T Vortex I had was 1 lb, 3.30 oz. My stock 41T was 2 lbs and it had some wear. The Vortex Aluminum is the lightest one I've weighed. The Vortex steel front was also lightest but I think a Renthal Ultralight steel front sprocket will be lighter. I am waiting for them to get back in stock. Nobody has one for a busa. I was not able to get one for the 14 last year either.

My Driven aluminum 45T was 1 lb, 3.75 oz. AFAM 45T was 1 lb, 4.40 oz but it looked really cool with the big lightening holes. They must use a heavier alloy.

It is pretty nice here today. I am going to remove the stock rear wheel & weigh it with the stock brake disc and the 42 tooth Driven sprocket on it. Then install the new BST wheel with the stock brake disc and the 44 tooth Vortex. It is going to be in the 60's here tomorrow so I will get a chance to ride with my buddy on his 1000 BMW. We occasionally get these warm winter days here in KY to ride.

Got the rear wheel mounted. Rook here are some weights for the ZX14R
Stock rear wheel, Dunlop Q3 tire (app. 1000 miles), stock disc, Driven 42t sprocket---35 pounds 10.6 ounces
Driven 42T sprocket for stock rear wheel---13.1 ounces
stock rear brake brake disc---3 pounds 1.6 ounces
BST rear rapid tek wheel, New Dunlop Q3 tire, stock rear disc, Vortex 44 T sprocket---27 pounds 2.1 ounces
Theses weights for stock & BST wheel are with sprockets and brake discs on wheels.

8 and a half pounds! That's about a 25% reduction in rotating mass.

If I ever get the Driven 44 tooth sprocket it will drop below 27 pounds. The 13.1 ounces surprised me for the 42 tooth. The 44 Driven will obviously be heavier but looking at the Vortex & driven next to each other the Driven has more material removed. Both are very high quality but I prefer the Driven. Going to ride today as it will be 65 degrees here this afternoon.
Covic is getting bad here although not as bad as some other areas. Stay safe guys this stuff is serious. I have lost two friends to it.

Comparing the Driven 45T to the Vortex 45T, the Vortex looks like it has more material removed to me. It's less than a half oz lighter than the Driven. They are very close to the same weight for the same number of teeth.

BriloTech has lighter rotors than Galfer, especially on the rear. Their new design weighed 338 grams. They also offer custom front rotors and lightweight speedwheels. Chris Canaan on Facebook offers cut stock rotors which are lighter than Galfer, and there are Titanium rotors and sprockets out there as well.. Ceracarbon is making aluminum and carbon fiber sprockets (530/42 estimated 375gr 525/42 estimated 319grm 520/42 estimated 293gr). I prefer the Driven or Renthal sprockets too. It looked to me like the Driven sprocket had a little more material removed at the outside, so they should reduce inertia more than the Vortex sprockets, the Vortex sprockets also have recessed mounts for the sprocket nuts.

I can't find BrilloTech rotors on the internet except for your lightweight brakes thread. Where would you buy them?

here's the Lightweight Brakes Thread BTW.

What kind of pads does one use with BrilloTech rotors? Brillo Pads?

BriloPads are the best, multipurpose, clean up the dishes after I stop the bike..
But they do recommend their proprietary pads for best longevity and performance. If you were after the lightest front setup, I think they'd be the best street-able option as they will build a totally custom setup with variable designs, dimensions, colors, and materials. There are a few zx14s and hayabusas running their products.

OK now I remember you and I talking about these a few years back on your lightweight brakes thread. I could see these on a race bike but they're not real attractive to the eye IMO. I imagine they're extremely expensive too.

How would you order a set? All I see on the links are Facebook pages with Japanese writing.

If you contact the BriloTech representative they'll give you more info on price and options. From aluminum to Titanium rotors hats to motogp or street styles, different colors, materials and styles on the floating buttons..

I have CF brake discs on my 2016 Z07 Corvette. Best damn brakes I have had on anything. No brake dust and super strong stoppers.

Thanks Steve. I will think about getting some for the BSTs but the looks of those CF rotors would take some getting used to. Aluminum might be just the right thing.

The Driven sprockets for the BST wheel finally arrived (41 & 43). Now I am really curious because they are both heavier than the 42 that was on the bike when I bought it. I was told the 42 was a Driven. The new 43 Driven is lighter than the 41. Doesn't seem right but I checked twice. The reason is that the lightening holes in the 43 are larger. The 41 weighs 1 pound 2.1 ounces and the 43 is 1 pound 1.9 ounces. The 42 which I was told was Driven also has 10 additional lightening holes in it which are original. No big deal but curious.

Ok Rook I found out who made the alloy rear sprocket that came on my bike. It is a Renthal ultralight.

I would have gone with a Renthal rear but their gold anodizing is not good. Matches Vortex gold. It's a bronzy, opaque looking gold and I don't like it. Maybe I will get one one day but I'd paint it...which adds about an ounce of weight.

I will be trying the Talon for my BST.
