I bought my 2015 14R a few months ago and put about a 1,000 miles on it so far. The bike always had a lopey idle, like a car with a big cam sounds. It eased up when warm and usually holds between 1050 and 1100 rpm's. The other day I went out and the idle surge seemed stronger than usual. At the first stop light the engine cut out. It restarted fine but the surging continues. Perhaps it could be as simple as a bad tank of gas but was wondering what else could cause this change? From what I understand the bike has a PCV installed. I have no info on mapping, if their was an ECU flash or fly removal. If this continues after a fresh tank of gas is this something a dealer can troubleshoot given the modifications? It also has a full Brocks system. Not concerned about warranty issues but more about someone being able to review what is there (or not) and figure this out. Thanks.

fueling.It shouldn't be doing that.Especially to the point of stalling.What does it do if you're getting on it and then suddenly chop throttle?Can you try some fuel injector cleaner in it?See what that does.disconnect the pcv.Try that.See if it's okay then.Then you'll know for sure.About that anyway.

Grn- Bike runs strong other than the idle. If I step on it and let off the throttle I get an occasional backfire but that's mostly the Brocks I think. I'm sure I can figure out how to disconnect the pcv but do I risk a lean situation with the stock fuel flows and the Brocks system?

You'll be fine. These bikes are rich straight off the showroom floor. Mine ( ECU tuned/full ex. ) will surge slightly on hot days after riding steady state on the interstate and then stopping at a light. After a few moments it settles down. I would say the PCV likely needs a little tweaking. I doubt anyone removed the flies on a 2nd gen as it wasn't needed like the Gen 1. Really miss my 84 zx900 after looking at your avatar.

Suzy- I had the 84 GPZ900 as well hence my long search to find this model.

I did find out that the ecu wasn’t messed with so will find someone to tweak the PCV.

Never heard this before about any stock bike made since about 1980.

The ECU enrichens the mixture for cold starting and leans it back out as the engine warms. EFI enrichens when the engine is hot, the opposite of carbed machines which lean out when hot.

A lopey idle would have me looking for an air leak. As it sucks air, the sensors will tell the injectors to add fuel to compensate, raising the idle speed. Then it will compensate the other way, dropping the idle speed.

Sorry, but the tail chasing is to remove any piggyback tuning tool. ECU should show the PO's name or a code on the case... says it has a flash. No markings, it's OEM is the assumption. The PC map download might have numbers in the first two vertical columns at the left side. Might be there. If clear, I'd still pull the PC off.

Don't think it's a throttle body boot leaking air. More think it's the PC. High percentage of 14's [since inception] with those gen changes, are bulletproof in all areas.

Once the aftermarket is applied... OEM's says don't fuck wit me, change a sprocket tooth, shut the fuck up it stumbles, no power, and the laundry list begins by swapping out OEM parts for nothing but induce problems moving away from OEM's preset.
