I pulled the panels off covering the intake funnels. I rerouted the electrical cable (on the Brake side) on top and that gave me plenty of slack. I found a new product today-Reusable Cable Ties-sweet! I rerouted the Clutch hose and used a Zip Tie to hold it to the Intake funnel to keep it out of the way. Of course new brake hoses are required. I have 5" rise and 4" pullback. I can still use a Tank Bag. I can Lock the Steering Stem. Bars do not touch Tank.

My low mile used ZX-14R came with LSL bars.
I thought about replacing them with the stock parts, but decided to give them a try first.
After a couple of 2,500 mile trips, I'm very pleased with the LSL bars.

The bars still let me lean forward enough to be comfortable while on the Interstate, but the best thing is the additional width of the bars which gives me more leverage to move the bike around when pushing hard through the twisties.

I still get full lock to lock steering without contacting body parts, which makes low speed U-turns a snap, especially compared to my previous bike (Gen 1 Hayabusa).

my old setup with 2-1" GenMar spacers per side compared to my new setup-5" rise and 4" pullback. Using the 2015 Concours Touring Seat is very enjoyable. I'm riding a completely different Bike.

Are the Apex bars hollow inside? What works well for a bar end?

Convertibars has a hollow end so you can use a slip-fit bar end or He sells his own bar ends for $25 and they screw into a thread deep inside the bar. Convertibars constructed with steel inserts for the steel bolts to squeeze the clamps. He has a Patent on his product.

I rode my Ninja 2800 miles to Glacier Park and came to the conclusion that the light weight Convertibars Bar Ends are not heavy enough. I have a Bandit in the garage and removed them to see how they install. As it turns out, I removed the metal sleeve and nut and the threaded bolt is the same thread used as Convertibars.
The vibes I had on the throttle side are gone. I bought the parts from BikeBandit.com for $56/pair.
I have Arthritis in my hands and really like Johar #JO1102 foam grips.

In case anyone else is lookin to do something similar, I did the LSL conversion several years ago, but never installed bar end weights as the handle bars were hollow with no threads. I looked for conversion inserts, different bar end weights, etc. A guy at the store mentioned that most of the dirt bikes simply use a piece of rubber that gets squished to hold it in place and it occurred to me that I could do the same thing.

So, I bought a couple of bolts, 2-4 washers, and a couple of nuts from the hardware store. Picked up a piece of rubber fuel line (figured it would hold up better) and vola, I'm using the stock bar end weights on my hollow handle bars! The stock weights I found are WAY heavier, nicer and cheaper than anything else I could find; I also found it made a BIG difference in the vibrations through the bars.

If you're curious, prerequisites:the bolt must fit through the weight, have an inside head (hex/allen key required) and be long enough to fit the rest of the components, but have enough thread so that the nut will still work, the nut MUST fit EXACTLY inside the bar so that if you turn the bolt, the nut does NOT turn (easier done than said actually). The washers must fit inside the bar but using the largest possible the better. The rubber hose should be about 3/4" to 1" in length (adjust according to your bolt length if you want) and should be slightly smaller than the inside diameter of the bar.

So it assembles as: Bolt through weight, the washer(s), rubber hose, washer, nut. Slide the thing in as far as you can go, and tighten the bolt until the rubber gets compressed to the point where it grabs onto the inside of the bar. Don't over tighten as it will just push the whole assembly out of the bar. It was really a lot easier to do then explain and the hardest parts were finding the right piece of hose and trial & error on the bolt length.

As mentioned previously I've installed the ABM conversion kit . Just recently had the fairing trimmed on both sides so the bars don't make contact when turning lock to lock.

I've got a laminar lip installed , in the stock position , on the stock windshield. Works well but I think it could be better to reduce wind blast at highway speeds . So I'm contemplating moving the laminar lip to a position like BanknYank has his . I remember another ZX14 rider on another forum with his laminar lip in a similar position , who seemed very happy with it.

Just recently learned of another windshield called the Madstad quick-release windshield system , which looks like it may be an even better solution to reduce highway wind .

So now I don't know what I'm going to do ?

Decisions , decisions !

I'll live with the wind blast.

CanDC, I know my bike gets more whacked out with each passing year but that windscreen .......OMG!!

If it suits your needs, go with it.

this could be the next step.

Rook.... Yes I must admit it's not very subtle !

Banknyank... Can you tell me your experience with the laminar lip at the modified position , in terms of wind blast on the highway ?

Thanks

I used Zero Gravity touring shield, the added the stock shield on top. I used 2 Nylon bolts/nuts and bolted the front of the shield. On each side I used 3M Duo Lock 250PPI tape. I can remove the stock shield after a trip.
If your traveling over 80mph you need a higher shield. My next project are side wings to the edge of the fairing to redirect the Bugs.
This Bike can fulfill many roles.

CanDc - Re your Madstad quick-release windshield system, is it quick-release via what looks to be two spring-loaded pins? Is that all that's keeping the shield from flying off into your face?! Ca-ray-zee! :) Do they state a max speed limit? I can't see that being suitable for 186 mph ... but maybe so?!

This Bike can fulfill any role.

doubleD - Not any role. You ain't gonna win no beauty contest with that layered setup! I'm sorry, my man, but you are taking Frank Lloyd Wright's "Form follows function" to the bleeding edge ... and perhaps beyond!

It's all good ... If it suits you that's all that matters

Extrapolator....

All I know is what you see in the pics. There are a couple of videos on you tube though that shows the attachment/ detachment. Don't know anything about how stable it is at speed as I'm just in the investigative stage myself.

Don't forget to 3M film your front Fairing. The paint is paper thin and mine has many chips to prove my point.
I bought mine for traveling, not Sunday afternoon wash-n-shine. 20 feet away from my Bike you cannot tell any difference. A Cheap fix, too.

I didn't need to change out the bars at all. I have the 1 inch bar risers that they have worked incredible. No strain on the forearms, shoulders or back neck area. Hands down I would recommend.
