I'm Puzzled What Is This
12/31/17 5:50 PM

I found what appears to me to be LED accent lights on my newly acquired 2012 ZX14R. So far I have found six, which appear to be wired in series with a flat ribbon type of cable with four leads. 2 lights on the tail frame above the rear tire aimed at the tire and swing arm, 2 on each side, 1 under the fairing above the clutch cover and the opposite side, and 1 tucked in under the side cover fairing aimed down toward the front. The puzzle about this is, I have yet to find the damn switch!

While poking around the battery area in a half ass attempt to trace the LED light wiring, I see this electronic box Velcro'ed to the side of the battery! This just doesn't look factory to me. It has a red and green diode with a red wire going to the positive post and a black wire running to ground. The ground side has a covered inline plug with two goofy looking female sockets that I'm not familiar with. There is another wire running across the battery which also doesn't look factory that may be for something else. I didn't have time to pull all this out today, and was wondering if anyone may have a suggestion as to what this little flat box may be?

Happy New Year to anyone reading this and Thank You to anyone who might have an idea!

Best Regards.......George

maybe an RF receiver/switch? idk, when u pull the black box maybe it will have the transmit/receive frequency spec or data for the device. could be you didn't get the remote gismo when u got the bike?

Lizard Lights. That must be the controller that allows you to change the flash mode. I had 'em on he busa when new. Floor model. The self adhesive just peels off.

You will probably find something like this up in front. That was some kind of ON/OFF switch. I just turned the controller knob to activate them. They worked a couple of times. Looks like the switch must have fallen apart and broke the circuit. I ripped them out. They were sorta cool in a weird way. Obviously not cool enough. I didn't replace them.

Wish I would have saved that controller though dammit. I could use that for what I'm working on right now.

The wiring to these lights didn't go into this little box that I can see without removal, so I didn't put 1 + 1 together and up until I read your reply was still thinking and looking for a hard wired physical switch. When I read your reply finally I got "= 2" bingo, now it appears to make sense, a remote controller!! And, no the controller didn't come with the bike. Perhaps today I can get in there and pull that box, as you suggest, to get some info off it and at least confirm the light wiring goes to it. Thank You crude for turning on my light (pun intended!)

Well, if I had the controller you would be welcome to it, as I'm sure I will be pulling these things off. Just doesn't seem like the thing I want possibly falling off into the chain and sprocket at about 180! Although I'm sure those guys who like them would say don't worry they stick like glue! On the other hand, I'll admit they do look kind of cool on a custom bike on display, I'm just more about riding than standing and admiring.

Well...I got it out. No branding on it. Just a QC sticker and ID: 0484. It does appear to me to also have a miniature waterproof mic pickup! Maybe that's the remote antenna, but sure looks like a mic to me. I left the lights and wiring on. They are stuck on there much harder than my GoPro and it stays on in the wind at 180, so I think these little tucked away lights are there to stay. Thanks Again cruderudy and Rook.

It looks like a brain for an alarm.Wonder if that 'mic'deal is an antenna? The two small plug ins possibly going to an external speaker?

Could be an antenna, but being familiar with hide away lapel mics and those we used to use for bullet and helmet cam's it looks more like a mic than an antenna, although It is a bit puzzling why there would be a mic! The plugs were plugged into the series of LED lights. On the red cord is a fuse box, but I didn't have any fuses that fit and it is empty. I guess I could have jumped the fuse box to see if the lights came on or either the green or red diode lights came active. instead of a remote I wondering if this was wifi or bluetooth capable to a smart phone app.

Your bike was bugged by the CIA. you're under survielance. I Hope you didn't say anything you shouldn't have. Check the bike thoroughly for GPS homing device.

Hey look guys, just because a 71 year old rider (actually 71 3/4!) occasionally loses control of his mind and acts like a squid on an oversized overpowered sport bike, that is no reason for the CIA to track his irresponsible actions of doing triple the posted speed!! It's not me, it's the damn bike. I mean the throttle control mysteriously rotates counterclockwise out of my control and I'm then just along for the ride!!

But if it is true the CIA has my bike bugged with a GPS and is tracking me, I wish they would give me access to the actual speeds I have been doing because I think my speedometer is off!

Looks like you have a very inexpensive Light kit, The small box with the dial controls brightness and speed of light flash in strobe mode. Can be remote operated or with Bluetooth app from your phone. The second large box usually is used to have lights flash and strobe from music or even the rumble from your exgaust. if you look at the small controller you can seen name of kit manufacture. Look to be KURYAKYN.

Similar to this kit

Blkcasper: The small box with the dial controls brightness and speed of light flash in strobe mode. Can be remote operated or with Bluetooth app from your phone.

Thank You Blkcasper for your feedback. Not sure what you are looking at in the photo I posted, because there is no dial on the controller.

Blkcasper: The second large box usually is used to have lights flash and strobe from music or even the rumble from your exgaust.

There is only one control box. If you are referring to the gizmo on the red lead, that is a fuse box. What appears to me as a miniature mic, may in fact be a pickup to flash lights with the rhythm of the exhaust or other music.

Blkcasper:if you look at the small controller you can seen name of kit manufacture. Look to be KURYAKYN.

There is only one controller box and there is not a name only a QC sticker and a sticker with "ID:0484".

Sorry, I was referring to the third pic posted didn't see that it was by rook. But that is deffinately a remote controller for the lights. I've done many different light kits on my bikes. Most likely remote controlled or Bluetooth app

I agree, there is no lead for a wired switch or remote, so has to be wireless or bluetooth.

I read your reply and didn't get it. I read it again and didn't get it. I was thinking what the hell is he talking about. Then scrolled up to look at the last photo and started laughing my ass off! I suppose they didn't spend much time getting the air bubbles out of that concrete job!

You know it just doesn't take that long to ride to Mars and back on a ZX14R!!! And I didn't even get Iron Butt credit! But I probably did get Monkey Butt on that trip!
