Howdy from Calgary!
03/20/11 10:57 PM

New ZX-14 owner here, browsed here a lot while making the bike selection and the purchase. This bike is quite an upgrade from my current ride, a 1982 Honda CB750F. I like that bike a lot but its a bit exhausting to ride on the long hauls. It's winter here so I haven't rode it even an inch yet, not even a test ride. I went through it to see what had been done to it and give it a full service and inspection, all looks good. The most interesting mod is the GSXR cans welded on to the stock pipes, I like the look and sound. I disconnected the TRE for now to see what it is like without it. If anyone here is from the Calgary area and wants to give me the ZX-14 101 on a spring ride, chime in and we can set it up. Cheers!

Well the snow melted just enough to go for a very first ride on the 14...

THE POWER OF THESE BIKES IS ABSOLUTELY INSANE!!!

I really like the available torque down low, smoooooth. Very comfy fit for me, well balanced. Brakes are also amazing for a heavy bike.

But I don't understand why there are more than 2 or 3 gears??? I hit a few km of the #1 highway and was speeding in 1st with plenty of tach left, 2nd was double the speed limit or more, in 3rd I coasted back to traffic speed, all in 4 or 5 seconds. What the hell do you do with 4th, 5th, and 6th??

UNBELIEVABLE!!

They're an awesome machine Madmak, and they just never seem to get old. Everytime I get on mine I develop a face ache from the ear to ear smile.

Hey, Madmack I am in Calgary as well and will be new to the ZX-14 as of this Saturday. I can't wait to get it on the road. Moved up from an SV 650, I guess it will be a small jump in power ;)

I got it from Pro-Am. After I rode a buddies ZX 1100 last year I was sold on the big bikes. had to convince the wife and find the bike. It all came together about two weeks ago. You in the North or South?
Not sure how soon I will be going out on the road due to the Gravel, Salt and Ice in some parts. I need to break it in so 22X will have to do... I will post a pick once I pick up the bike.

I saw it there a while ago, nice bike. Any road is better than the garage:) I'm in Chestermere, you? The side streets are a bit dirty but the main roads are good to go, Just the corners to watch for.

I am in Evergreen which is North of 22X. I used to do the run into Kananaskis Country (to get there you take 22X, head towards the mountains and just stay on that road), The road eventualy turns to gravel deep in the foothills but I just turn around at that point. I am always interested to learn about all the nice roads around here. You got a nice bike as well, I really like the look of the muffler. Are those the "GSXR Weld ons"?

Thanks and yes, those are GSXR 1000 cans welded on to the stock mid-pipes. A lot smaller and lighter than stock. Hoping for sun!

Looks nice Jbeezy! I've braved the cold weather and been out a few times too.

otrfab, sounds good. We should plan a trek to Bragg Creek and back, Jbeezy needs some break in time and that's a good route.

PM or call me guys if you come up with a plan, I will do the same. 403-827-2815 - Cam
