Vulcan 2000 MOD
01/22/15 11:44 PM

Hello.

I've had a 2006 Vulcan 2000 for a couple of years now and ran across an interesting mod on one of the other sites and thought I'd try it.

The shifter incorporates a switch in it that sends a different value to the ecu depending on what gear it is in. This restricts ignition timing in the first (4) gears and kills performance.

The mod is easy and involves cutting (1) wire, stripping another and putting a 6 cent 432 ohm resistor in the circuit. In other words it routes the signal going to the ecu through the resistor and makes the ecu think the bike is in 5th gear all the time.

The net result is WAY better part-throttle response and overall power.

It is well worth the 20 minutes it takes to do this and makes the bike feel a couple of hundred pounds lighter. It is WAY more responsive.

No check-engine lights, no negative effects whatsoever.

If you would like more information, post up or pm me.

Ron

Those are beautiful cruisers. I had a blue 800 Classic for a year. I really loved my dad's Drifter. That was the best one, IMO. I wish I could have bought that bike.

I traded my 06 ZX14 in on a Vulcan 2000 on a Saturday. I went back when they opened Tuesday and begged for my bike back. They came and got it with a trailer, and I was out $600. About $6.00 per mile, but man was I glad to get my rocket ship back.
It would be cool as a second bike, but not the only bike.

Let's roll

That's why I have both the Vulcan and the ZX-14R for now.

The Vulcan is a great highway cruiser: Comfortable, good cruising range, belt-drive and lots of torque.

I'm waiting for May to come so I can try the ZX-14R out; and see if it is as comfortable as people say out on a highway trip.

I finally got a chance to take my ZX-14R out on the road.
These bikes are VERY SMOOTH AND VERY FAST.
It really depends on what you get used to as I heard some guys with the smaller bikes say the ZX-14 is too big and heavy. No, a Vulcan 2 Liter IS BIG AND HEAVY.

The ZX-14 is really an "Out In The Wind" motorcycle, even with the MRA Sport-Touring windshield.

For the longer trips (200+ miles), I'd take the Vulcan hands down. Almost no wind, lots of torque.

BUT for fun and feeling like you do when you ride the ZX-14, it is really hard to beat.

Both bikes have their place.

I REALLY like the ZX-14 .
