2010 Z1000 to share time with 14
12/28/09 3:18 PM

My 06 14 is starting to get long in the tooth and set up as a touring bike. (works great by the way)
Thinking of putting more seat time on this;

test ride link;

http://www.motorcycle.com/manufacturer/kawasaki/2010-kawasaki-z1000-review-89033.html

Looking at all the early reviews I think it would be great for what I will use it for.
General mountain riding, commuting, and some hooliganism that isnt the 14s forte'. Possibly some casual track days.
Also looks like it has flies too...We know what to do with them.
Could live with the stock exhaust until someone builds a full system that adds to the already good midrange.
Knowing KHI, I would be replacing the shock and modding the forks after about a year.
Kawasaki is going to have test rides available, we will see.
Almost makes more sense to get a leftover KTM 990 Super Duke for about the same money.
Just love Kawis and like the longer wheelbase.
If I like the looks will probably jump on one.
Otherwise it will be the KTM.

Cool. Yeah, flies. We almost forgot about them. I don't know about the literbikes but the new 14s are just about the same with or without.

Damn, I've been trying to ignore that bike. It makes me want to be unfaithful to my Baby. There's no doubt in my mind that that thing would be a great ride. Need to find a dealer that allows test drives. That is a creative looking exhaust on it! Probably nothing more than fancy sheet metal.
I'm gonna take my magazine article about the Z1000 into the bathroom now...

Maybe it's just me being me again, but it will be so difficult for anyone to convince me
that the 1050 cc engine on the new Z kicks out torque #s close to the zx14!
Upward of 105 rw torque is roughly 15 or so more than the 1000 cc class and those engines rev much higher.

Either Kawi has a monster engine on this new Z or that Akra graph is more bogus than a Harley salesman IMHO.
With torque upward of 110 and roughly 100 at 7K rpm this thing will be a blast to ride and will have no
problems keeping up with anything else on two wheels on the street.

Interesting point Mass.
Cant imagine a reputable company like Akrapovic using such tactics, but....,
Remember the New BMW 1000rr is reported to have 180+ at rear wheel. Cant imagine a reputable Co. like BMW....,LOL
Heres a photo of the Z that shows 2 sets of plates and air injection inlets.
We know what a good tuner can do with them.

Will be interesting to see if Brocks or Muzzy get into hot rodding a Z!!!

Wonder if that big dip on the chart is due to the flies opening, hmmmmmm
If so, would the removal of said pests add the big benefits to the Z like it does on my 06 14?

Might be fun to see if a person could adapt those body panels to a 14.hehehe
Fab a different subframe etc.
If only I had photo shop abilities...,

Please let me be the frist to call BS on this one. Nice bike though I'm sure it will be a blast ride even stock

We should give them a brake here,
maybe they have a diesel engine in there that
puts out this monstros torque #s.

On a more serios note- who's this bike competition?
It's not the Monsters, not the B King,
this might prove to be a well selling bike for Kawi.

I too am drooling over the new Z1000, and it looks like I will relegate my ZX14 to sport touring; just get some bags for it. But this new Z not only looks bitchin, it is supposed to run good too!

I believe the extra cc's on this bike comes from a 6 mil stroked crank, IMO (from experience with a stroked zx9) the torque is more than likely there

Yesterday, just tested the new 2010 Z1000...love it! Kawi did their homework. This is my favorite in the naked class *to ride* (so far) out of the Speed Triple, Street Triple, 1125 CR, FZ1, Tuano, B-King (all of which I have also ridden). Only minor gripe, I wish it had an analogue tach. The 2010 Z1000 is pure fun and encourages nothing but hooligan behavior! IMHO, this is no doubt an excellent addition if one wanted to add some contrast to your stables.
