Flush fairing bolts?
07/12/16 9:42 PM

Has anyone mounted their windscreen with flush/smooth bolts? I've always wondered why motorcycles designed around racing/high speed aren't design with flush bolts?
I have a countersinking bit selection and I'm contemplating trying a flush mount setup.
I've seen a post on another site where a guy did something similar, then he went to aluminum bolts with big heads afterwards. I wonder if he drilled out too much material and had a problem with cracking or if the bolts didn't tighten in a concentric manner?

I may try for the two bottom bolt holes that are currently covered by my white stripes without bolts, i might add. White countersinks would be inconspicuous and the bottom of the screen would be anchored as it should. I wouldn't countersink my bolt holes though. Probably grind the bolt head to fit instead. Yes, I think it could be a cracking hazard. It is really not necessary to tighten these bolts much at all though.

If you countersink the holes, I would suggest a conical dremel grinder for plastic. I think a countersink bit would be too harsh for plastic. Go slow. Any power tool is going to melt plastic if you pour it to 'er.
