Denali Soundbomb split dual tone air horn
02/19/16 4:51 PM

Need some help. Ordered and installed the Denali Soundbomb split dual tone air horn. ....and of course having issues. Doesn't work.
Compressor is kinda loud but no horn. No holes in air hose. Checked relay wire connections. Seems like I got it right.
Any ideas? Want to ride tomorrow. ..don't want to ride without horn, and kinda don't want to put old one back in and reroute the wires again .

Thanks

Just finished installing this horn in my 14R yesterday. It looks like your connections are right... 85+86 (left and right terminals) are for the original horn wires, which will trigger the relay (when compressor wires are removed and horn button pressed you should hear this click). This action will connect flow between 30+87, which should be power from battery, and power to horn compressor. Compressor should then be grounded elsewhere. There is but a slight delay from when I thumb the horn button on the switch cube and when the compressor spins up and a deafening blast is heard... Is your wiring of sufficient gauge / fusing? Is it possible the air hose could have slipped off either the compressor or horn? Were they fully inserted into both places? Curious, where did you find room to mount your compressor and horn?

I mounted the horn in the same spot as oem. The compressor I had tucked in on the right side next to the ram air tube, under the cover along with the relay.
Wire is good, 30a fuse. Air hose was on good, I even pulled it off and blew into it plugging the other end to check for leaks. The Compressor is pretty loud though. I pulled it all out cuz I wanna try and ride tomorrow.
Already called about getting a replacement. I ordered it from Twisted Throttle. I've tried everything they said also. I even bypassed the relay and went straight off the battery to the Compressor but same thing. Damn defective parts ruin my mood haha

You mounted that huge noisemaker right above the fender? Any concerns about clearance during suspension compression and/or hard braking? That would be a buzzkill, getting everything mounted and then finding out parts are defective... Where do you live that you can ride this time of year? I'm over in northwest Iowa and snow/salt/winds/cold still rule the season.

I have a small concern about the clearance, but I couldn't find another spot where the unit would be exposed so sound isn't blocked.
I've seen posts where someone separated a Stebel (I believe) and put it in the same spot.
I live in NY....haven't rode in quite a while, and today was 60° so I couldn't pass it up!

Got the new horn. And it works! Acoustic unit is mounted to the OEM bracket (praying clearance is ok) Tucked the compressor and relay under the right side ram air cover

I have the similar Stebel Nautilus mounted under the center fairing bracket. It's out of the weather, but the sound is slightly masked by the location. I was not aware you could separate the compressor from the rest of the unit. Did yours come in two separate pieces or did you take them apart and mount them in different locations?

Danno, ours came split from the manufacturer: Link

Superman, I mounted my compressor on the LH side, behind and under the ram air tube:

I mounted the horn between the RH inner and outer fairings, using a custom bracket to attach it to the outer fairing, like so:

I did take off the round cap on the side facing us in this photo, which allows the inner fairing to fit back on with almost no flex. Finally, I drilled a grid of holes in the inner fairing to allow the horn to flow through. Didn't want to have to modify plastics, but you will never see it under normal circumstances. I also didn't want to take the chance of crushing the horn, fender, or radiator during a sudden application of braking in the stock position.

It was separate Danno, with the link TigerFire13 put.
I keep thinking of the clearance, a little worried.
Where exactly is your unit mounted TigerFire13? Hard for me to tell from that pic

Oh I actually clicked the pic and saw the album haha. And just the cap being off makes it fit in there?
how did you secure it? Just zip ties? Thanks. I'm probably gonna move it, so I don't have to worry about the clearance

I neglected to get a picture of the bracket before I zipped it back up... As a mounting point I used a turn signal mount screw, then made a template from cardboard, and had my friend make it from metal. The bracket is about 3/8" length from front to back against the plastics, big enough to drill a hole through for the screw. It then bends at a right angle, parallel to the wheel axle, and this section is just long enough to reach from the blinker mount point to the mounting bolt of the horn itself, about 2 inches I think? It was a very close fit, but it works well. I got this location from another zx14 forum, that person just stuffed it in between the plastics, securing it with some kind of foam cushion material... I wanted something more stable and secure.

The bracket i used to mount the compressor was a straight mending brace that I just bent. Maybe I can do the same thing using your idea. If its too long i can just cut it..somehow haha

What AMP wiring and inline fuse required for installation?

Manual says 30AMP inline fuse?

Does this mean I need 30Amp wiring for install ??

Wiring in pics above does not look like 30Amp?

Thanks

I used an extra battery tender lead I had laying around. Not sure exactly what gauge wire it is. And honestly I don't recall what amp fuse I put in. I believe a 15A

That installation does not have enough clearance.

You're gonna hit a big bump and bash your fender with a big dent. You need to move the horn bell ASAP.
