ZX14 seat
05/02/19 11:31 PM

Hi,

Don't know if anyone else feel the same way, but I find the Gen1 ZX14 seat to be a bit wide and pushing on the inside of my upper leg during long journeys.

From what I hear, the 2nd generation 14R has a slightly narrower seat - thus my question....
Will the 14R seat fit straight onto the 1st Gen ZX14, without any modifications or any wide gaps between the fairing or tank ?

I know about the saddleback and corbin models, but I'm curious to know if someone has tried this as a cheaper option ?

Thanks

I believe the seats are interchangeable between the Gens. Ask Hub to be sure.

I doubt there is any difference except the Gen2 seat has the foam beveled on the edges to round them off.

I have a 2nd generation ZX-14R (2017) and it too feel too wide where I sit which is right up against the tank even!

So, I don't think changing to a Gen 2 seat will help you.

A good automotive upholsterer can remove the vinyl cover, "shave" the upper edges of the foam and then reinstall the vinyl cover, stretching it downward slightly to make up for the removed foam "edges". It is very inexpensive to have this done, and I am thinking about doing it myself, because even though I had the local guy take 1" off the height right after buying the bike brand new 4 months ago, to LOWER it (I have a 29" inseam),I did not realize at the time that the width at the top of the seat would be a problem.

I think it will but not 100%

I swapped the Sargent seat from my G1 direct onto the G2 with no issues, so theres that

LOL but the Sargent seats don't even fit perfectly for the bike they were designed for. Think the 14 is a little iffy at the back? You should see the busa. There's a gap at the gas tank and at the hump.

Early fits late or vice verse. Early is wide for the femurs, late brings legs closer to tank.

I have a Gen 2 (2013) and the stock seat would wear on my upper-inner thighs bad. I bought a Corbin (barely used on this site) which some say are hard and I might agree, but it has solved my issue. I now ride much longer before being uncomfortable, and it's never the upper-inner thigh anymore.

i think the gen 2 seat is worst than a gen 1 was going to try a connie but just haven't found the need

Appreciate the advise guys.

I will try to find an automotive upholsterer to modify the standard seat.

Thanks.

If anyone has a Gen 1 seat they want to sell let me know. Im not willing to pay top dollar for it since i only need it maybe once a year to carry a passenger. I have a solo Sargent seat on it now.

Sounds like a little trim and re-fit will work for you. Hopefully the seat won't look funny.
Either that or maybe a pair of those "slip on's" I see basketball players wear under their shorts. Maybe those would protect your thighs, cost less than a seat trim ??

Hey, Rook. Finally recovered from my back surgery. Feeling much better.
Now I'm getting divorced after 35 years/46 together. Fun year so far.
Taking it day by day. Hope all is well with you. Rest of you guys too.

That divorce thing can be a toughie too. One thing you have on your side is no kids to support. Still, I'm sure you had an important plan and now that's all tossed in the air. We go on. I hope it's a smooth divorce if there is such a thing.

Yeah, being with someone 46 years makes it hard to accept. No serious issues like infidelity, drinking and such. Just getting on each others nerves. At least it's a simple divorce. We actually intend to stay in contact and be there for each other. Who knows, we may get along better. It's kind of hard to accept chopping up my money I worked for all my life. Then, I can't tap into her social security, if I wanted to. Signing off my California home will be tough. Fair world we live in.

That sounds very positive considering it's a divorce. If you stay on good terms, the financial part is likely to work out ok. It's not as good as staying together but it is the best case scenario. My divorce was similar in that it was a simple case of not getting along. Now that I look back, I think it was a wrong turn for her, not me. I would even like to take her back but I don't know...I could never trust her again. I think that is the case with any relationship after a divorce. You cover your butt or forget about it. Not too romantic but it is reality.

I wish the whole thing wouldn't happen but I'm just in a damned if I do and damned if I don't spot.
The worst part is thinking about all the things we might never do again, but then again, we'd probably just argue too much to enjoy those things. Just turning me inside out. One moment I'm all ready for the change and positive, next moment I'm feeling bad again. Regular "Day's of our lives" going on.
Didn't mean to hi-jack the thread, Yackou. I think he made his decision anyway. After all that expert advice we gave him.
