Yoshi R-77 Slip On Issue.
11/08/12 5:48 AM

Hi All,
Apologies if this has been raised elsewhere on this site but i am a newbie here.
Recently I ordered a set of 2008 Yoshimura Titanium/carbon R-77 Slip ons for my 2007 ZX-14. The well informed amongst you will recognize that Yoshimura do not make these for a 2007 but only for 2008 onwards which means the headers on the 2007 are at around 51mm and the mid pipes on the Yoshis are around 54mm! Hence a loose fitting issue!
Some may frown but I ordered these slip ons with this knowledge. The reason is I love the look of these pipes and will make them fit one way or the other.
But I thought I would throw it out there to the experts or anyone else who possibly has experienced and resolved this issue.
Does anyone have any advise or input on what the best way forward might be here. Sleeves, reducers, tape, etc?
Thankyou in advance for any assistance...

I'm purely guessing here, but I wonder if it would be possible to stretch the mid pipe upto 55mm, i'd check with some good muffler shops to see if they have the machines to do this. I remember seeing machines designed to increase the diameter of pipes for custom exhaust systems on shows like "Horespower" but not sure what the limitations would be. Alternatively, you might be able to find a good metal worker and build your own reducer (would probably need to trim the mid pipe to accomodate the extra length).

Basically, i'm sure its possible, just depends on how much effort you are willing to put into it :)

You might try the Concours midpipe gasket.I have a couple...they're not quite as thick as the stock 14 gaskets...may be exactly what you need.A few MM's...that's about all they are...probably be perfect.

Thanks for the responses and help and all sorted now.
After much searching and frustration I finally found a muffler shop that was willing to help (cause the guy was a rider himself and didn't knock me back like all the others simply because the requested help was for a motorbike and not a car).
He simply made cylindrical bushs/sleeves cut from 3mm steel piping to take up the extra 3mm between the 51mm bike header and the 54mm Yoshi mid pipe.
When i got them home the sleeves were acceptable OD's for the Yoshi mid pipes but unfortunately a touch small ID for the headers so i cut a full length split along the length of each sleeve which allowed it to open up slightly and then fitted over the bikes headers. This also resulted in an unwanted 2 mm split running lengthwise down the sleeves. However this was simply filled with specific heat expanding muffler putty and the Yoshi midpipes then were slid over for a perfect tight fit (with some effort needed to push them fully into place).
Everything is extremely solid and there are no leaks.
Very happy and now have Yoshimura R77 Titanium slip ons on my 2007 ZX-14 even though these pipes were only designed for 2008 ZX-14 models and onwards.
Well worth the effort and initial frustration...

Muffler 'wraps'...factory...can buy them to rebuild those yoshis...from Yoshimura. Can't remember just now what they actually call em....but they come in several different materials. In case ya scratch one or somethin.Take those rivets out....and redo.Saw it on their site.No need to buy a whole muffler...again.Can also change your material if ya want...say..CF to stainless...or whatever.Pretty cool.Only company I've seen have that????Probably not the only one...but it beats payin big for a new muffler.
