turbo fuel pressure
10/07/11 2:52 PM

I have a ZZr1400with an ihi turbo on it,I have had the bike running but not very well.
Tonight I rechecked the fuel pressure as coming off the rising rate regulator i was only seeing 50lbs max pressure.
I went straight off the pump outlet and dead headed the pump still shows only 50psi.
The pump is a Gs342 should be good for 90psi and 255lph.(I believe) but as i say only shows 50psi.
I suppose the next move is to remove the pump and check it at straight out of the pump.
I believe the standard regulator is in the tank......Is this modded?
I would assume so as it would only ever make 42psi or so does anyone know the mod ??
I changed the in tank pump as above but didnt do anything else....any ideas
Romans we had a bit of dialogue on this recently do you have any clue?
Cheers

Pull pump, look on top, look close at seals. Blown out ? Show pics. Makes Easy.

I have same set up, if any thing I make to much pressure. 100 psi

whilst in there I will also take a look at the std reg too do you know if it is modded at all ?
Reason I ask is, how would it achieve more than standard pressure if it always blows off at 42/44psi?

How more pressure is achieved = the blocking the gas return. Boost pressure closes the check in the reg driving pressure up. If you clamp vice grips on the return line you will see what the pumps max out put is. Do this First before moving on. Post your findings. If your gauge shows 42 only ,,,,,It's a pump issue ?????????? Stock Maybe.

Romans ,sorry I was meaning on the standard application.
Do you know how the fuel pressure regulator works, the manual points to the device on the side of the fuel pump unit.
is this the unit does it do it electronically or is the pump constant speed and blowing off through the plastic moulding?
Do you know if it is bypassed or still in use?
cant see how the pump can supply pressure at say 100psi if it blows off through the standard gallery in the pump housing at 42psi.
Dont understand what I am missing here, for me you should bypass or block the dump side .........maybe that is not correct can you shed any light on this, I understand how the rrfpr behaves its just getting grasp of the standard side..............I want to understand
Oh not yet pulled it apart again but Ill take it out before the end of the week and take the unit with me abroad with work.
just trying for as much info for when i am away
cheers

Need pics, Best way I can explain with the fewest words is ,,, The new pump is capable of the higher pressure. The New pump has a OUT ONLY. It must return through the Regulator, from there to a hole that you Drilled into the bottom of the Gas tank. If you skipped this step explains how your pressure is not rising.

Does this explain ?

100psi if it blows off through the standard gallery in the pump housing

it does not

YOU GOT TO PLUG THE REGULATOR IN THE FUEL PUMP HOUSING ..its hidin behind the round cap at the top with the 2 little clips on both sides .. plug means regulator in hand it has a hole in it and a spring you need to fill the hole with a epoxy or something to keep it from moving to vent fuel pressure ..

Spot on,dragged the reg out from the housing now I see what is going on and the routing of the fuel,

Thanks for that ,it finally confirmed what Ive been a bit unsure about with the setup of the fuel system.
I have actually turned up an aluminium blank with the "o" seal to place in the regulators place.
It would also have been so easy to add a bosch competition fuel pump which i have, but ive already installed the uprated pump in the standard place so will now check the fuel pressure before I reinstall the pump unit.

I have a map from the infamous Dave, but havent previously been able to have the bike running with a decent llambda, its been far too rich. unless i drastically reduce fuel pressure to 26psi.
So does anyone have a good starting point map I can use with a PC III usb for a 2007 zx14 on pump fuel....please if anyone can help
