First oil change
06/10/13 4:24 PM

Wow...its so easy !!! I think this bike will have the oil changed very often. Didnt have to remove any fairings, make any special wrenches, no body contortions, etc. I owned a Yamaha Raider briefly and it had 3 drain plugs. Two needed a special wrench and were very hard to reach. This bike is a breeze !!!!

It would annoy me to have to remove fairings just to get to the filter like some bikes. But not ours! I love that it's so easy to change the oil on this bike.

I'll send the kids around to hammer out maintenance for the nation! ;)
We can get crunk while the chilluns prep bikes. Ya want mirrors off, block -off plates installed? Street or track prep? Just give my daughter ur requests and she will forward them to the head wrench.

What kind of oil does everyone use? I just bought some Mobil 1 racing 4T oil 8.99 a quart for my first oil change ever should I use it? Also is it safe to use full synthetic? It's 10W-40 also. I bought it on 6-28-2013 And I'm not going back to the dealer they screwed me over pretty good.

Yep! Gotta love it when you can do an oil change in the same time it takes to have a Scotch and a cigarette.

:)) they focus on Q U A L I T Y. I have taken note of every oil change done in my bikes over the last 30+ years and I will unabashedly say that I believe 100% Silkolene is the very best. I don't know how to more vehemently state that. I have 3 more sets of lab tests now and I'm gonna have the kiddos change oil again soon (we are gonna video that one for a thread! :), and that will be my last sample for testing. Then I will have a total of six reports on the shear stability and the viscosity after each oil change. The results all speak to what my senses told me. The Kawi oil was toast. The amsoil got eaten twice, faster than expected, and the silkolene holds up to abuse better and breaks down much slower, no matter how hard I rape her! :)) I will probably start going 1500-2000 miles between oil changes now as long as this next change again looks good.

1st was Kawi oil out very early
2nd was amsoil out at less than 1000
3rd was amsoil
4th was silkolene
5th was silkolene
6th will be silkolene
And forever it shall be.

Some say once you've had synthetic in your engine you can't go back To conventional

I don't understand Or agree with that

my first oil change was to synthetic now On my second (3900 miles)I'm going back to conventional

I'm just going to change it often

I don't think so either.I've run both in my 14R.Certainly couldn't feel any difference. The manual gives both options. One lasts a bit longer...MAY be a shade slipperier...IDK.Once she's at operating temp...they probably both perform the same?

"on the average oil change every 2500 miles"...I don't see why not.Unless you're doing A LOT of high end driving...that should be okay.

I normally change mine when I feel the shifting begin to get 'notchy'...that seems to work pretty good.
