Screen cleaning advise...
03/18/13 4:25 AM

gday all again,
when i bought my second hand 2007 zx-14, the screen had a few minor scratches on it. nothing too bad but it still annoyed me.
i just picked up a virtually new original oem kawasaki zx-14 screen for a song.
trouble is it has 3 unwanted stickers on it that wont peel cleanly off.
nothing major but i know how easily these screens scratch and mark so i want to be very careful here.
does anyone know the best way to get these stickers off while not doing any damage to the screen at all?
thanks heaps again for any help/advise guys...

Try soaking small pieces of rags in WD-40 and leaving them on the stickers overnight. If they are paper, they will soften right up and the WD will aid in the removal of adhesive. If they are vinyl, it may take longer for the WD to creep in around the edges and get the stickers to begin lifting.

I always go with a hair dryer...get em nice and warmed up...then start at an edge, and begin lifting slowly(while applying heat).Any residue afterwards...micro cloth with goo gone...works really well.LIGHT rubbing only.

Rubber cement thinner is the solvent to use for sticker goo although I do not know if it will have any effect on your windscreen. Probably perfectly safe for plastic. Whatever you use to dissolve the goo, use only microfiber cloth. That is he only kind of cloth I use on my high gloss surfaces and they are all in very good condition after 5 years. Windscreen will get tiny swirls but a wax will pretty much fill those in.

Hairdryer on high, better yet a heat gun on low, and after you peel it off, Goo-B-Gone will take the remaining cement off safely.

Its never going to be easy for aftermarket stickers, but I found the Kawasaki OEM placed stickers (like the octane sticker on the tank) come off easy with a heat gun.

try GOO GONE if you want. I used it on my busa tank after pulling off the octane sticker. It really did not seem to do much at all more than soap would. I used a bit of denatured alcohol on a microfiber and that worked better than Goo Gone.

Whatever you use, make sure it is plastic safe! Try a little bit on the mounting tabs for the screen and see. Me, I use PS electrical contact cleaner. Works great on sticker residue, tar, bugs, and pine sap. I will remove your wax though.

Hey Yannih. I'm a bit late on this but for future screen care, for vinyl stickers, use a heat gun or hair dryer first to warm it and then lift it off, then Shellite or Prepsol to remove any left behind adhesive. Both are perfectly safe on acrylic screens. Then use a fine scratch and swirl remover for paint on the screen, followed by Plexus plastic polish. If you don't have Plexus or it's a bit too expensive for you, you can just use good old Mr Sheen furniture polish, or Nexus is a cheaper version of Plexus. Whatever you do, always be VERY gentle and selective with your polishing rags and technique. Acrylic screens are very soft and swirl very easily. Ensure the screen is dust free first, then use a soft cotton rag or microfiber. Never press too hard on the screen, let your products do the work. For polishing, I often go the the OP shop and buy an old soft terry cotton sheet and only pay a couple of bucks for it. I hope this helps.

Hi victhing
I went the WD40 soak option as i had that haddy and as sweetfa65 says, go very easy and don't rub too hard.
All good then. Make sure you do a test on a mounting lug first with whatever you use though.
But I'm sure all these great hints would be fine...
