I tore second gear out of my busa and it left fingernail shaped debris. But I had a gears worth! :)) that looks like that shift might have just beveled the gear a little for ya. As long as it is still engaging cleanly and strongly and crisply, should not even be a problem. All sounds are as normal?? Usually your ear will pick up a big failure comin.

Thanks Cblast. That's what I'm hoping for if a failure is in the future. Everything seems to be running great but I look at this bike pretty close so I see everything. Makes me wonder sometimes. I can't see cracking open the gearbox unless there is a definite need but some day, it will be interesting to see what everything looks like in there.

The thing I worry most about, I call a shift fork. I don't know what it's technical name is. But basically its a long two pronged fork that is a part of the engagement process of the up or downshift. That 'shift fork' can get trapped or stuck between gears if a bad shift is missed or if say I am power shifting from 2nd to 3rd with no clutch, if I don't aggressively bang that shift, it could trap between gears and bend. That sucks. If all it does is shave a cog most likely all is well in my humble opinion. If the shift fork bent you would know it. She would engage all wierd. When I hit the busa once I bent that fork. I was like WTF? Immediately on the next shift. Then I fixed it. Put it together. Rode it. It seemed fine. So I ride it hard. I blow second gear. I should have inspected second gear when I was in there. I learned the hard way. I think you would know or feel if it had been real bad. I did. Twice. :)) I can laugh about it now.

That quick shifter and star eliminates the risk of a bent shift fork almost completely! I like it! A lot! Had to go research that shizz real quick! Dang! Another thing to lust for! :)

Man, what a cool little engineering solution. That thing is neat.
Dude read my mind

I installed one on my 14...first gen. That article is a 'tad' overblown...the neutral to first shift(clunk) on the 14 will not disappear with this kit...although...it will make the other shifts very small and smooth....which is okay. There's a bolt inside that mechanism....behind the clutch basket...you'll see it when ya open her up...It's TIGHTER than shit...so you better have a tight fitting allen to go in there and crack that bolt loose...I didn't think it was gonna break free...but it did...finally.You may have to hit that allen(NOT an bent allen wrench...a straight one that goes into another tool end) with a hammer just to break it loose enough...you know...couple of good smacks...nothing crazy.Straight on....good smack.Hard and sharp.

oh OK ....I can't remember, clutch stuff was silver , I thought....can't worry about it. Too busy feeling that front lift off the ground to care about anything else!!!!!
(except I GOT MY COOL new orange axle sliders from China! nifty.)
Will get the EVO and pop er in whenever I get the busa ready to ride.....I'm enjoying the 14 too much to screw with wrenching.

Sorry! Doh! Yes! I use Kroil a lot! It works in just a few minutes and it does exactly as it claims. I haven't had it fail me yet. Rusted lugs that haven't budged since the 80's come free after a few minutes. It's a really effective product imo.

I'll check the auto supply to see if they have some.
I haven't had many bolts frozen on the 14. Not even the dreaded countershaft sprocket nut. The rear rotor bolts were very tight....coulda used something on them. Recently, I tried the bolts that fasten the frame sides and they were so tight I gave up before I stripped them.

Yup!! Like that i take a chopstick and drip a drop or three down it to exactly where I want it. :)))
Another cool use for Kroil is to mix it 50/50 with hoppes #9 copper solvent, soak down the bore of your weapon. The kroil carries the copper solvent with it to the lands and grooves BEHIND the copper fouling. Removing all excess fouling almost effortlessly after an overnight soaking with the gun barrel verticle in a cut milk jug. No excess wear on the barrel from cleaning. Always a consistent clean cold bore.

Shit Cblast you introduced three things here that have peaked my interest! Number one being that evo star. Is it for both the 14 and 14r? I have a bad habit of quickly and lightly bumping the shift lever when I change gears while riding very aggressively. Will this keep me from always putting it in neutral when I'm going between first and second, and sometimes completely missing gears all together? I did find a sweet spot between 7 and 8 grand that works perfectly for my style of upshifting.

Yeah nasty, the shift star thing should solve that. I am gonna try one on the R. Can always just take it back out if it doesn't perform as necessary, but I think she do.
