New ZX 14 owner
04/26/09 8:09 AM

Hey all, I the new guy that has purchased a 2009 ZX-14 Monster edition, I really didnt want the monster version originally but now am starting to like the monster marks more and more. The bike is my first sport bike, I am 41 years old and am responsible enough to slowly get used to the beast. Alot of bike.... I do have a question, I have seen smaller bikes with side protection that has a bar running diagnally across the bike, looks like it would replace the frame sliders, does anyone know of where I can find some. Good day

Denniskirk.com or chapparal have them. They are calles barrier bars that stunters use. I just took off mine. Militant moto's, they offer great protection and give the bike a nice look. They run between $125 and $225 depending on the brand and finish.

Take it easy.

Thank you all for the warm welcome. I have been enjoying the Beast and have logged 1500+ miles already. Here in Colorado the weather isnt so motorcycle friendly, but I have enjoyed a few safe rides. Thanks again.

I was same as you last year. 41, zx-14 1st sportbike. You'll be going fast. It's good we have a few years on us to give us some common sense.

I think the sliders you are talking about are called "Railz" or something like that. They have a puck forward and aft with a bar between them. I believe the idea is to distribute the force of a fall between two points on the frame to help prevent frame damage in a fall. They must add a few pounds to the bike. Also not sure if they would save your ankle in a fall since they have that bar there.

IMO, saving your own body parts is the only reason to have sliders. It's not going to do much to rescue the bike. From many posts I read here, sliders cause frame damage but they do save your leg. Smart to have them. The Railz look cool but I'd go with something lighter IMHO.

Rook, you have a good point about the whole saving of the leg/ ankle in a fall or slide. I purchased some frame sliders and installed them, it makes me feel safe to know that as long as I am not going to fast and I do have a mishap that I have alittle insurance reserved in the sliders. bgordon I am down in Colorado Springs. Everyone be safe and enjoy the Beasts.

So who here is from Colorado Springs, I am looking to get some mature riding partners. Seems the big monster rocket is a magnet for crazy people and I am not into that.

caillierzx14, You have some type of protective frame slider on your bike what are they called? I have been told a few names and sites to check out, but the sites didnt work out to well for me.

Thanks Irv

Welcome & G'day from Australia
How about some pics of these Railz - I've not seen anything on the market like that down here.
I don't like sliders for the frame & engine damage they cause.
Dumb arse me dropped the baby on my foot at 1 mph! 2 broken bones, so guess there might some sense to the rails???
Either way didn't stop me riding Philip Island GP circuit for the day - sensational !

Just love my ride, most awesome thing you can experience.
Guys talk about their latest turbo car goes like .... I just smile and say nothing - they have no idea !

Enjoy the ride like there's no tomorrow ...

hersczx,

If you look closely at caillierzx14's pic on this thread you will see what I am talking about. I have seen smaller bikes with them and want to get some, but cant get lucky enough to get a good website to look at. I am sorry to hear about you dropping your bike and the bonz is not a good thing either. But at least you can still have fun, always keep moving to have fun.

Hi all,

First post...well reply rather. I have lurked on the forums since before the old forums died. I am a newer rider (used to ride smaller street bikes and dirt bikes over 20 years ago, and just started riding again). I got my diablo black in Aug 07. Mine is still stock, but hope to do the flies and PC this year. I've only just put a little over 5k on so far (yeah I know...I'm a slacker!)

@ irvinwn - I live in Colorado Springs as well; around the corner from Sky Sox. I'm 39 and most likely fall into the mature category ;) Send me a PM if you want to get together sometime.

BTW, I think these are what you were talking about - http://www.powersstuntworx.com/railz.html
