14R front rotors
08/15/19 1:19 PM

I bought my 14R in 2012. OEM rotors warped after a year. I do not race and do not abuse the brakes. I eventually replaced them with EBC's. They warped as well. I was later told the EBC's are crap.

Does anyone have FIRST HAND experience with a good quality set of rotors, at a reasonable price that will not warp under normal use? My shop is recommending Brembo Supersports. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

I know what I would do..... Get another set of OEM rotors off Ebay.

Also the ZX10 2006-2015? rotors fit too. 14 and 10 have same bolt pattern and 310mm

Should be able to find clean set for $75-$100

I just got a set of ZX10 rotors from a 2009 zx10 $75 to put on my 2006 ZX10
I converted them over to full floating and they are 310mm vs 300mm on the 2006

Same zx10 vs zx14, more sets available for the zx10 that's why I mention the zx10 rotors

Anyway you can check one of the sites to see what rotors fit what bikes, like the
brembo site will list them.

No way I'd be spending $500+, that;s me I'm cheap and also the OEM rotors made by Sunstar
are very good rotors.

I have had good luck with Braking and Galfer rotors, but they are spendy. I have heard good and bad about EBC. A buddy replaced his warped rotors with Chinese knock-offs and they worked fine and didn't warp. Don't waste time and money on stock rotors unless you like do-overs.

Sorry, just not true.

He already went aftermarket and has a do over!

I don't know, 50+ years dirt, street and track and I have yet to have a warped rotor.
Lucky I guess.

I think people mistake uneven pad transference as warped rotors. Using wrong pads and
riding softly on performance pads, etc. and then after replacing rotors it just happens
to them again.

For new, Brembo would be my first choice (and I'd go oversize 330mm) Galfer good stuff too.
Nothing EBC or Chinese.

Maybe try sending you current rotors to Truedisk https://truedisk.net/
and see if they can regrind. If they are truly warped they will tell you and
not regrind.

Started riding in the 60s....no bent rotors...I agree with Piken... Only adding that it is very possible that while off teh bike , rotors could be damaged by tire change etc.

Cock the bike on the side stand so the front wheel is off the ground. Hold the front brake lever and release. Have someone spin the front wheel or kick at it from the top down and move it that way.
1. Does it spin and stop?
2. Does it drag a lot and hardly makes a 360° spin if at all?
3. Do you change brake fluid every 2 years since you've owned it?
Water is heavier than oil so the boiling of oil, like, what is in that bubble? Oxygen, air, condensation. That drops to the bottom, moves under the 4 square sided rubber ring called a quad-ring. Piston moves out, quad moves out of the groove sorta, water gets under and crystallizes. This moves the ring up against the piston. The quad [did] at one time go back to square and pull the piston back as memory moves it back into the groove. Make sense about old brake fluid and piston drag?
4. Do you rest your hand over the front lever?
With no drag, this is more and ever so slightly running the pucks out some, but not enough to affect braking, as in dragging the bike down.
5. Do you hit the brakes for a long time or do you go right up to that stopping point with a fast bite of the brakes?
You cook parts keeping the brake on for so long. If you wait to the last moment, that's less friction time warming up things.

The brakes drag on both of my bikes after they sit a while. That's not unusual, the brake fluid pressure pushes the pistons out after it sits a while. Are the rotors dragging even after you have ridden the bike? Do they get hot even if you don't use the brake? Do you feel a wobble in the steering? If you are just hearing a scraping noise as you roll the bike before startup, that's normal.

Anyone installed these floating pins to their Rotors?

I just converted a set of rotors for my ZX10 track bike from semi to full floating.

I used the Bremo replacement rotor button kit. You can find these at a few places, but
I bought from Kurveygirl

My '06 had warped rotors, replaced with Galfers, no problems since from 9k miles to 45+k miles. My 2013, same thing, replaced under warranty at 16k miles, replaced with new OEMs, now at 36k miles, no issues. IF they warp again, will replace with Galfer or Brembo.

2013 ZX14R ABS, Red, Scorpion Serket Carbon slip ons, centerstand, Rizoma Mirrors, MRA DoubleBubble, Gen-Mar risers, Buell pegs, ThrottleMeister, GIVI V35, Corbin saddle, backrest and glovebox, Power Bronze Hugger, Radiator Guard...so far...
