Looking for a bike tracker
08/05/19 2:48 PM

Heya folks, been a few years and I'm finally getting back in the saddle soon. My last ride was stolen from my porch, and I'm wondering what motorcycle tracking looks like these days? I was thinking something like Lojak, but I see they don't do motorcycles any more.

What's a good/affordable way to set up some gps tracking something in a bike?

I would get a scorpio on your bike. I have one on mine and it works great with adjustable sensitivity and perimeter potection.

I would say the Scorpio system is great! Or go real cheap and get one of those key tags locators and tape it some on the bottom of the gas tank...

Those key tags only work if your close. I'm using https://logistimatics.com/product/micro-420/ along with a 10k mah power pack. Lasts almost 7 days between charges.

SteveStLaurent, Sorry about that just trying to keep the budget down so Scorpio wins a bit pricey!! Maybe try to get a group buy going...

Sorry about what?

Btw, Using the Micro 420 from logistimatics I paid $70 for the GPS and the battery cost me $36. Logistimatics 4g service costs $14.95/month and I can stop and start the service at any time. As a bonus I have full 24hr tracking that I can look back at any time - got out of a parking ticket with the track a couple weeks ago. Disadvantage is having to charge it weekly but it also isn't dependent on and won't drain the bikes battery.

I ended up going with that Scorpion tracking system and I have to say I am impressed. Pretty easy to set up - the hardest part of the install was getting to the battery. It's got tilt, ignition and shock sensors that seem to work well. It can be linked with their audible alarm system, though I did not get that (yet... not sure if I want the alarm or not).

Plus it's tied to the Rever app, which is a pretty neat app - from ride tracking and sharing to even setting up notifications for when I start or stop a ride. There's even a live link you can share that someone can click to see where you are in real time. Not something I plan to use much, but cool... particularly handy if you need to give it to the authorities in case it's stolen.

It's also worth mentioning that when I called support with questions the guy was very friendly and helpful; a big plus in my book.

Only down side I've found so far is the price - $250 for the unit plus $15/month for the data plan. That feels expensive, but for me personally that's worth the peace of mind.

I've had it a couple weeks now and it's working as advertised so far. If I come across issues I'll keep this updated.
