Big Day. Big Ride
07/03/20 4:47 PM

Again, no pictures. (I'm sorry)
So, I finally retired. Had to move my bike from Hayward to Shingletown.
On I5 its about 3.5 hours. But who the Bell wants to take the freeway ???
So, I got w couple friends to join. We took I80 to Colfax and then 174 North. I hadn't been on that road before. Beautiful, fresh pavement and wound through the trees out to Hwy 49 at Nevada City.
Kept heading North on 49 to Downieville. Gas pumps broken. No problem, we'll get gas in Sierra City...
Gas pumps broken. Gulp ! Decided to take a gamble and head for Quincy. Luckily we found a Chevron in
Greagle. Topped up and continued North. Got to Lake Almanor and the vote was to go through Lassen National Park. So we headed West on 36. Well, road had a stop due to construction. But the flag guy told us
about a road we could use to bypass the work zone. Hwy 172. A great little twisty thing that
popped out right near the entrance to the park. Don't tell anyone, but I think we didn't exactly follow
the 35 mph speed limit in the park. And I know the Rangers don't cut any slack. But we made it through unscathed. We were at the house, sitting on the back porch with beer by 2:45.
384 miles. Took us 8 hours. Next day I flew back to pick up my truck while my friends had to ride
home. A great ride in beautiful weather.

Lucky duck! I'm 51. I don't think I'm allowed to fully leisure yet.
