Switch Bypass Kit
Has anyone else deleted these safety switches and associated bracketry?
Eventually I plan to eliminate as much of the extra wire as possible, but for now it's nice to make a cheap reversible change..
I've purchased parts from them before and they've been very helpful. Shipping was fast and their parts seem to be reliable. My Versys has had their pair delete kit (includes a plug in resistor to make sure there is no F1 light) for about a year now, and I just added their kickstand switch to my xz14r.

That's a great product to have. I would like to remove mine. I had a V-Max that the switch failed and stranded me once. When they get some age on them they can go out.

NIce idea. It seems like there must be a way to do this mod without any aftermarket parts though. All you'd need to do is eliminate the switch and the circuit would be open all the time and ready to roll. Just don't forget to put the stand up.

I'm liking these mod ideas you're coming up with, Cool.

No need to purchase anything, just need to close the circuit (usually cut the wires close to computer and solder together). I usually delete this switch on my bikes, but since this is my first new bike I thought it would be nice to be able to just plug in the jumper and be able to reinstall the switch if there was a warranty issue or something similar down the road.

It's always best to be able to return a bike to stock. When it comes to wires, you can always solder it back to stock. I guess I wouldn't do that to brand new bike either though.

Are you just wanting to do it for when / if the switch goes bad?

Seems to me if the switch went bad, the contacts would fail to make the circuit. The switch would always be open which would mean the bike would start side stand down or not. If the switch stuck closed, that would be a problem. I think the main issue is weight reduction. I've never heard of one of these switches wearing out or sticking on a 14. I'm sure the switch and brackets weigh less than 2 oz but if you take all the non-vital parts off that that are that light, you have a few pounds.

It works just the opposite. When the sidestand is up the switch is closed and the bike runs. When the stand is down the switch is open and bike does not run. If the switch fails (and it will after enough time) it does not close and the bike will not run. All the bypass switch does is provide a continuous short no matter the position of the sidestand so the bike runs. Has nothing to do with weight.

Must be good for an ounce or two but wih an 8 year old bike, I should probably do it before it wears out.

The bracket/switch is actually fairly good size. If you don't plan on running the switch I think you could also cut off part of the (cast iron?) sidestand mount. I did that on the zx10, and used a lighter set of bolts since they are so stout there should be a couple of pounds down there once everything is all done, especially with a switch to an aluminum sidestand.
Actually not as heavy as I remembered. 4.52 oz, 128 grams. Still something.
At this point in my broke life, the free mods are the best mods, even if they don't mean much at least I'm still doing something..

Nothing like investing in titanium for cost effective weight loss... At least I don't need to buy the new sidestand yet.

Aluminum is a lot lighter and much cheaper. I only use Ti on load bearing parts.

Steve, ever hear of an aluminum side stand bracket? I've looked and I can't find one. Thinking about sending the OEM steel one to a machine shop and getting it copied. I'd delete the side stand safety switch and mount too. My aftermarket side stand is aluminum, why not the bracket too?

Wow you guys are really serious about eliminating weight. I can see it on a pure race bike but not on a street bike.
Being absent minded put me in a ditch when I left the side stand down on one Kawasaki I owned 20 years ago. After stopping to let my buddies catch up I took off without putting the side stand up and went into a left turn, didn't work out well. Honda used to put a rubber piece at the bottom of the side stand that kicked it up if you leaned over while moving that worked.

CooBrzBlue's bike is pretty much a race bike. I haven't heard from him in a while but last time, he was mainly working on the bike and not riding it yet.

I think the pole vaulting hazard is why they make side stands not fold forward much on sport bikes, it's more likely to flip up if you forget to put it up...incase the switch fails?

I have been thinking of getting a billet sidestand bracket made to go along with the switch elimination. I'm not so sure about that now that I have seen billet Buell pegs break off. Then again, my sidestand is billet and it never broke.

Cool idea. I'd be interested in seeing the weight change and price. I updated the brake weight comparison again..

I thought it might be as simple as sending in the OEM side stand bracket to Online Machine Shop. They probably could 3D scan it and copy it in billet.
