New oil
09/05/10 9:13 PM

Was gonna go with Mobil 1...ended up goin with Motorex full syn.If anyone's interested,I'll post up in a while my impressions.I didn't realize but my last change(to Motul V300) was over 5,000 miles ago!Held up pretty well I think.Someone here mentioned about using 87 octane...and getting good performance from it.I filled up the other day with 87...just to give it a go.Sorry...lost approx 4-5 mpg with it.Filled up yesterday with 91 again.Within 30 minutes I was rollin at approx 4-5 mpg better. Now we'll check again with this new oil and see if there's an improvement on fuel mileage as well.Should be FUN!!!!!WoHooo..you guys ride safe!

I use Motorex chain lube and found it to be the best there is. I actualy thought about changing to their oil because of the viscosity choices. Be sure and keep us posted on how it works. I looked at the cost and they are pretty proud of the shit!

To much to list!

I run 5-6000 mile oil changes with Mobil-1 motorcycle specific 10/40. The 14 owners manual recommends 7500 mile changes on dino oil I believe lol, so I don't think 5-6k on a high quality syn is too bad at all. Why the heck else pay 9+ bucks a quart (at WallyWorld even!) for something eh?

Okay...I was having some shift issues with this new oil...at first. The shifting is now very good.No missed shifts, the arm is returning okay to the "next" shift position without having to "toe" it up there. No oil loss as of yet.I've run around 1000 miles on the new oil,and she's holding at the full mark.So far so good!Very smooth performance and acceleration.Noise level, very quiet. No "mechanical" noise...just a sweet whine and purr.

I've been using the Jasa MA certified(for wet clutches) Rotella 15w-40 full synthetic but can see in the oil window it's dirty at 2000 miles. Thinking of switching back to Dino Rotella, it's Jasa MA certified to, and start changing it every 2000 miles. Sam's Club has the dino for $53 for 5 Gallons. It sure is easy to change oil and filter in these bikes.

It's a diesel oil and has superior sludge and soot control. That black stuff is suspended combustion particles that would normally end up as sludge in your engine.

I think 6k on good synthetic is not even pushing it. If you wanted to have it analysed, I bet its good to about 10k miles easy. Even with the gearbox and clutch chopping up the viscosity as much as they do.

I get Amsoil synthetic (10W40) for just a little more than you get Mobil-1, but I doubt there is a whole lot of difference.

On the other hand, you could run 20W50 Castrol and put up with a sluggish gearbox for a week, run it for 3k miles, and swap it out, how many times before it cost you $10ish/quart ?

I'll stick with synthetic though, if I have to go an extra 3k miles before a change, it doesn't matter nearly as much as pushing petroleum-based oils even 1k over.

I've had synthetic in my car for a year, going to have it changed next week and go another year. Works just fine doing that.
