exhaust dent
06/24/18 1:01 AM

Hi
Looking under my bike ive got a 1/4 deep dent in one of the header down pipes closest to the ground, hows the best way of removing it, can it be pulled perhaps welding a nut on it and using a slide hammer set up, or cut the piece out, reshape and weld back in? what do you reckon guys? The pipes are stainless? even though mine are showing some corrosion?
Thanks in advance
Dave

1/4 inch dent really doesn't hurt the flow of exhaust. The best way to do it depends on your skill level or the skill level of the person performing the work, but by all means take it off the bike to do it.Stainless doesn't really bend that easy so it would have to be heated to use a slide hammer but if your gonna cut it use a tig welder to put it back. I would leave it alone and just ride IMO, not hurting performace.

I would either leave it as Bobbie says or buy a good used one off ebay or one of the forums used parts sections

a fellow rider told me a while back he filled his plumb full of water capped and put it in the freezer, when the water froze it expanded and pushed the dent out.

The best thing about an exhaust dent is that it can be used as a "good" excuse to buy an aftermarket exhaust system! :)

Although at that point you would want to flash your ECU or get a power commander... Like the others already said, the dent won't really hurt and you won't really ever see it so I wouldn't worry about it at all.

That was my first thought!

From what I hear Brocks is very thin metal. I can tell you Tsukigi won't ever dent from a rock strike but they're not as light as Brocks.
