Out with the new kids
04/08/19 9:04 AM

So yesterday I led a group ride with 4 newer riders. One with 2 years experienc, one with 1 year and one with 5 weeks.
We met at the use spot at the top of the Hwy 92. Had a pre ride briefing and set off.
Went up the road and I was wondering why everything was kind of blurry.
Oh shit ! My glasses !!! Found a pull out and stopped. Our 5 week rider stabbed
the front brake and went down. Got her back up. No injury and minor scuffing to the
bike. Went back to the parking lot. Saw my glasses laying in the road. Hung a
U turn and picked them up. One arm missing, shattered lens but wearable. This all
happened within 5 minutes of starting ! Thankfully the rest of the ride went great.
Everyone rode good and had a fun time.

Looks like a fun group. Bummer about the little tip over but you know---live and learn.

That's amazing you found your glasses. More amazing is that you see well enough without them that you don't notice immediately when they are off. I absolutely cannot drive without corrective lenses. I'd be lucky to make it 30 minutes.

I don't use glasses for close up work, but my distance vision is a problem. I probably could ride without them but would end up with a headache.
As for the kids. We completed my loop and were back at the meeting spot at Alice's Restaurant. 2 more of their friends showed up. I had some things to take care of so I gave them a fun route to follow and headed home. Got into a nice dice with a CBR1000. He tried to shake me but I clung to his butt like a tick.( Shaddap you...) Got a big thumbs up at the end of the road.
So, apparently the new riders went on my suggested route. They missed the turn off so hung a u-turn back to the road they wanted. The same girl who fell that morning hit sand and fell AGAIN! This time ripping the turn signal she had scraped up that morning completely off. But she still has a great attitude. I think she's a true trooper.
She's ready for more. Signed up for a maintenance class and wants to do a beginner track day.
So, all in all, everything worked out.

Boy is that "glasses" story familiar...so much so that I carry my previous pair of glasses with me on most rides and definitely on trips .. First time was in Texas where I ran out of gas in teh middle of nowhere about 12 miles to my planned gas stop I went thru a long thing with 3A only to find out that motorcycles are on a special add with 3A and I did not have mine included.. By this time it was dark and finally a trucker stopped , droppted his empty flatbed and went ahead and brought me back fuel.. When I went to put my helmet on, I sat my glasses on the seat, totally forgetting them in the excotement of not being stuck all night . I took off and about 100 yfs away was a sign.. Like Mad, I could not figure why it was so blurry LOL..When I realized what happened , I returned to where the trucker was just finishing hooking up his trailer and we found my glasses in the gravel , beat up by usable...

Good on you Mad for helping teh new riders...
