miss below 5500-6000 rpm

06 zx14 with Brocks alienhead and pcv, K&N air filter started missing pretty bad within a short distance from the house. checked the forums and it sounded maybe a stick coil or something like that. at 11000 miles the original plugs have seen better days. #3 was fouled and black. all of them were black, 3 actually didn't work. shot the pipes with a laser thermometer and 3 was cold. replaced with brand new ngk plugs specified in the service manual. all good again. tailpipe is also quite dark. will contace brock and see if I can get a new map emailed to me. any suggestions on this? don't want it to foul another plug as im headed to the Ozarks this coming Wednesday. maybe a dyno tune? do the auto tune boxes by power commander work well? thanks for any and all help youll!

I think it would be odd if a Brock map caused that unless you are at a high elevation, maybe.

Seems like a stick coil would cause missing at all rpm.

I had my original pugs in for 40,000 miles and they ran as good as the new ones I put in. I believe you that 3 pipes were cooler than the but could that engine start on one cylinder?

All plugs being blackened doesn't seem unusual from what I have seen.

tailpipe soot is normal.

...yet replacing the plugs cleared up the issue so I guess that is it. I don't think the mapping is the culpret though. A dynotune would tell you if Brocks is too rich....doesn't seem likely but possible. Autotune would also tell you.

Autotune works great. It needs to be complex but I wish it was a little more straightforward how to use it and I wish it was faster but it works if you run the bike like it would be on a dyno and then accept the adjustments. Lots of work but I have a tutorial on that. It will also tune automatically while you cruise at one speed but for sport riding, it is too slow. You need to go through the whole routine of doing tuning runs to tune the map cells holding at one throttle position to tune outside of the cruising range. cruising range is only about 5% of the total map so basically, you need to do runs unless you're just going to ride at the cruising range.

Get Wideband2 instead of Autotune. A few more features for a few $ more.

Rook I think he was speaking of #3. I'm not 100% positive but that's how I read it.

The low milage suggest shorter rides. I would run only ethonal free in it. Also if you don't, make sure you run it for a good solid couple hours not just short trips... give it a chance to blow the carbon out.

You mention "dark pipes". I'm not sure exactly what you mean by that, but excessively discolored pipes usually indicate a lean condition. I also would say some is how you ride... if you ride it hard a lot the pipes will probably be a little more likely to discolor. My Yosh system has a light brownish tinge to it, mostly I attribute it to running the the bike hard frequently than anything else.

Ah yes, Now that makes more sense. I ran my busa with one coil disconected and I really couldn't tell he dif except I was getting an FI code
