Really Old Tractor
02/17/19 4:07 PM

Back in 2015 I rode out to Arkansas from Colorado looking for my next home.
I met Bikes coming west from Bikes, Beer, BBQ Fest in Fayetteville, AR. I stopped for fuel outside of Independence, KS. One unusual trailer Rig. Homemade.

On the way back I drove through St Paul, KS.
The Town was first named Osage after the Indian Tribe.

A park like setting with a Steam Engine Tractor.

I was raised on a Farm in Kansas. My first Tractor was a John Deere (like this). Dad would put fuel in a petcock and rotate the flywheel. It pulled a 2-bottom plow. I started at the age of 8. In the summer when other Kids were riding Bicycles I was day dreaming. 8-10 hours a day with no radio to keep me company.

This Tractor seat was very comfortable.

Farming has changed so much in my lifetime. Same for technology. This Laptop is amazing. Digital Cameras. In the past I would take 2 rolls of film on a trip. Now I take 100's of pics and edit.
This Farm Equipment was in Scott City, KS.

Dad had great expectations of his sons. None became Farmers.

I'm 50. My 73 y.o. dad talks about tractors on 'the farm' way back (family farm in PA) ... Let's see, he'd have been around 12 so '58-ish. We talk about how much tractors have changed, like safety, ROPS, etc ... and how the old ones could flip over backwards and crush you, or open air rear tires could grab your clothing, pull you off and run you over.

Now he's had a Mahindra 4110 (40 HP) 4wd with loader since ~2000, and I have a 2010 Kubota L3940 (39 HP) 4wd with loader. Love 'em. Good to get on a tractor with ear plugs, ignore the phone buzzing in pocket, and nobody buggin' ya for a while
