Taking off this Friday to go check out the Quail Motorcycle Gathering in Carmel, just south of Monterey. Planning on just a quick freeway ride (from San Diego) to Ojai, then taking the 33 to the 166, and Arroyo Grande for the night. Originally thought to do a longer route, but had a chance to ride Angeles Crest last weekend and it was VERY rocky, no bueno. Saturday morning, instead of Hwy 1 (closed, bridge down at Pfeiffer) will head up the 101 to Greenfield, and then take G-16 to Carmel. Coming back, some of the same way, but will take Hwy 58 (just North of San Luis Obispo)to McKittrick, and then South from there. I have read that this is a great road, never had a chance to hit it. Planning on spending Sunday night somewhere near Frazier Park, maybe the Historic Rock Inn by Lake Elizabeth. Will try to not be lazy and take (and eventually post) some pictures from the trip. If you have any recommendations on roads/things to see etc, would love to hear them.
