Tank bag for 14R
04/17/15 9:45 PM

Looking to pickup a tank bag for 14R...
1] It should be really easy to install {magnetic will be better}..
2] Not very big..
3] Pouch in the front to put a 5.5inch phone which can be used as GPS navigator also...

Please let me know your preferences...

Why magnetic, those will scratch up the tank.

I have a tank bag but prefer it off the tank. I use a Givi bag and adaptor that raises it off the tank.

If you use a Magnetic attached tank bag, NEVER pull the bag off the tank. Always fold each pad up and away. And check the magnetic pads often, they pickup debris.
I use 2 tank bags from Nelson-Rigg. A small one, CL 1025, for around town and the larger one, CL 1030, for traveling.
Nelson-Rigg bags are made from Nylon and do not fade. Mine came with rain covers. Nelson-Rigg has changed their mounting attachments. I use clips in the front (around the steering stem) and magnetics in the back. I just detach the back and swing the bag forward when I refuel.
Any tank bag touching the surface will scratch the paint over time. Keep the tank waxed and maybe get 3M Invisible Bra installed.

I use a cortech magnetic bag. It has a clear pouch on top that you can put a smaller tablet in. It comes with a water proof cover that stores in its own spot. I use it for riding to work, I can carry my lunch and a drink or two. Best of all it doesn't get in my why of riding

I have Oxford magnetic tank bag, just always check the magnets for debris before putting on,I also have an Ogio back pack which is fantastic , no wind drag at all, removed the Belly strap nuisance to do up.i prefer the ogio over the tank bag .

Thx guys i checked the magnetic bag at a local shop and the dealer told the same thing.. In long run, it will scrap off the paint... Advised to use a cloth between the tank and tank bag...

DARRYLE i do have a ogio mach5 bag, but i need more luggage capacity so was thinking of picking a tank-bag with kreiga saddle bag...

DoubleD will check the nelson-rigg bag online.. looks a good option to me.

Aryan, never had any scratches from Oxford tank bag on either my 07 or 2012,I do put on a good coat of wax before a trip, also have Oxford panniers with them I use a lot of electrical tape on tail piece to stop scuffing

Thanks darryle.

What happens when you apply sudden brakes at high speeds? Does the magnetic tank-bag skids or remains firm on the tank?

If I bought anything to put on the tank it would be the SW Motech Quick Lock. I think they are designed not to touch the tank, but to instead sit on the tank ring. Not cheap, though.

WildPete,

Are you using a Givi Tankloc or something different, and which model Givi Tankbag are you using?

I'm looking at the Givi XS307 but can't find anything about the right tank ring to use with a 2017 ZX14-R

The Givi tanklock looks to have a few size options. I have the larger Cortech Dryver that is on my '16 ZX14 all the time, also a tanklock system. In fact, I rode to Calif from Minn, and back, with the Dryver and soft saddle bags. That system works great and the bag doesn't touch the paint. Almost as easy to use as a magnetic bag, which I used a few over 30 years.

SW-Motech EVO quick lock

Several sizes. Like others said, I'll never go back to magnetic tank bags again.
I've had mine for a couple of years and use daily and has been great.

I have 2 different size Cortech tank bags and have never had a problem with scratching or falling off. I also wipe my tank clean before every use though. I do like the looks and options of the SW-Motech EVO quick lock.

So I spoke to Givi over the weekend,

If you have a 5 bolt tank ring (my 2017 ZX14 is) then the appropriate flange from Givi is a BF04...
which would have been nice to be able to find on their website....

I was originally looking at the XS307 tanklock bag, but Givi's website don't list the required flange.

instead I went down the SW-Motech path and ordered the following:

SW-Motech Quick Lock Evo Ring - Kawasaki 5 screws TRT.00.640.14001/B
SW-Motech "Daypack" Tank Bag BC.TRS.00.108.20001
Map Holder for Daypack BC.TRS.00.150.10000
Tank Bag GPS Mount Bracket BCK.GPS.00.010.100
Navi Bag Pro Large BC.GPS.00.009.10000

When it all turns up I'll take some photos of it on the bike.

Check out the Kriega US30 bags for sport bikes, they are really a nice design for our bikes! Not a tank bag but works great on the rear seat

the winning combination for me... at this point:
Kriega US30 for the rear seat & Givi magnetic tank bag
both get to sit on rubberized non-slip mats
not a scratch mark after a 2-months tour in relatively tough environment

I've been using a magnetic tank bag for the past 3 years, not a single scratch on my fuel tank.
