Marble size

Can someone tell me the diameter of a standard marble used for blocking the pair? .625? Thanks. Reason I ask is I have no marbles (setup setup, lol), but I do have a .625-5/8" ball bearing. Also curious, does that in essence, richen up the afr slightly?

I used a 325g .50 AE bullet from my Desert Eagle handload supplies. It was just a bit loose, I put a tie wrap above and below it. I think .625 would be a bit large. I dont think it affects the rich mix much but it does help cut down the off throttle burps.

Thanks crude. Sounds like 9/16" might be just right.

I used a wooden dowel clamped with a hose clamp.

no it can't richen up your fueling. It sucks air from the air box but I'm sure there is still more than enough for the t-bodies at any rpm. Come to think of it, if less air is sucked from the air box and you ended up with more air pressure, that would cause leaness if it caused anything. Naaa. Plugging your clean air hose is not anything like installing a turbo. Air flows through the air box. The more that gets sucked, the more that comes in right behind it. Never heard of anyone adjusting fueling for PAIR block.

A dowel is easy to pull out someday. Not so sure about a marble. What if the marble gets sucked down to the solenoid? Then you need to pull the hose out and blow on the end really hard. how many psi do you think you can blow? your going to have some sore cheeks.

you'll probably pull the whole PAIR out someday anyhoo.

Thanks Rook...I guess what I'm really wondering is what the I.D. of the hose is. I can just turn down an aluminum or plastic plug here at work. LOL to suckin that marble out...if I went that route I'd definately zip tie fore n aft, LOL.

Oh that's right --that's what they do. Well no idea what the hose ID is but it is easy enough to pull it out of the air box and caliper the inside.

here's what I wrote in my tutorial about the dowel block:

Insert 5/8” diameter wooden dowel into the hose. It will fit very tight. I thought it best to reduce the diameter of the dowel to avoid stretching the hose or distorting the rubber fitting that the hose fits into when the hose is reinserted into the air box. A tighter fit should be safer and seal better but it may also stretch, making restoring back to OEM difficult if the rubber parts no longer fit.

I sanded the dowel down so that it was closer to 9/16” and tapered a bit toward the tip so that it could be pushed into the hose (or removed) easier. I also rounded one side of the tip so that it would fit into the bend in the hose smoothly.

5/8" marble is probably what you're looking for if you don't mind not being able to remove it. 9/16" is probably safer and with a couple zip ties, that will block it off. I considered not hose clamoing the dowel I used but that provided a lot more surface contact than a marble would.

Just made a .600 and .560 plug out of Delrin. Figure one of them should give me the fit I'm looking for ;)

She can suck a bowling ball through a garden hose...

There is no chance the marble will get drawn down the hose, it's a very low pressure system.
