but not the same, only 1/2" at forks and a full 1" at rear....will this throw the bikes handling off ? Im thinking it might change the weight characteristics therefore handling... the front end being lighter cause rear is lower

Whatever you do, make sure they rear is NOT lower than the front. A lowered bike will still handle fine, other than maybe dragging stuff in corners. BUT, if your rear is lower than the front, it will try to push the front in corners. In other words, it won't want to turn.
