zx14 toolbox removal, tail tidy
12/27/17 6:08 AM

Hi
Decided to fit a tail tidy on my zx14 yesterday, biggest problem was removing toolbox, Kawasaki have used one directional screws on some of the models, just to say you can just get to the rear fender nuts with the tool box in place, just wondering are they 6mm threads? because at some stage I will be drilling them out and using a stud extractor..

Thanks in advance

Kawasaki have used one directional screws on some of the models

meaning they go in but cannot be removed?

first I ever heard of that.

The toolbox screws that came on my bike look just like the tail fairing screws that fasten to the subframe. I just ordered a couple tail fairing screws and those are M6 thread.

I would try a flat jewelry file first. See if you can flatten the curved side enough to use a screwdriver. A small Dremel cutting wheel might work well but those fly around a bit.

yeah, what a PITA! Kawasaki for trying to make Euro spec customers keep their toolbox!

Haha yep know what you mean, they are thread locked in as well just to be helpful

They are fitted for thatcham security reasons probably to help stop hot wiring or something like that !! Protects the ecu and relays

They can stay in until I feel like a challenge!!

If need be, you could just grind the heads off the screws. You might have enough of a stud sticking up to put a nut on them if you want to use them to fasten something. I'm planning to use mine to fasten my nitrous solenoid.

Best reason Ive heard to make space for nitrous stuff Rook
I put nitrous on my small block chevy, so addictive but expensive, my 10Lb bottle lasts for 120 seconds in total, but a 250 shot is hell of a hit!!

Yeah, that'll get your adrenaline pumping, I'm sure! I don't think I will go over 70 or 80 with the 14 unless I can get into some real engine work. 70 should be plenty for me but as you said, it's addictive.

Yep its addictive, My 350 went from 420 horsepower to over 600 horsepower, nitrous finds the weak points, although I love bikes as well, not sure but presume pistons, cranks etc are forged on bikes which of course helps, Ill be going twin turbo on the next one I build. "free horsepower" is the way to go !! Well nearly "free"

Something else I want to try. This one might end up with both!
