New goddies for my ZX14
02/24/14 11:35 AM

Got some goodies of ebay for my ZX14. Green Adjustable rearsets, green brake/clutch levers, and chrome clutch and stator cover. Quality of parts were pretty good. Rearsets came with everything needed to install.
Didnt get pictures of levers and brake/clutch levers or clutch cover or stator cover before install..will update how everything works later this weekend when I get a chance to ride her again. Setup rearsets for gp shift. Next is the annitori quick shifter. Then I think I will be done for a while...rofl..lets hope

Parts installed

Very nice!

Are those name brand rearsets? Or are they the Hong Kong ones I always see on ebay? I'm half tempted to buy them but I don't want to find myself stuck with shit.

Hong kong ones on ebay. I have a similar set on my zx10 that I've used for about 3 years and looged over 30k miles, 3 seasons of track days, and 1 season drag racing. Only issue I've had with the ones on the zx10 is that the anodized color is starting to fade. So for 150.00 bucks I decided to tray a set....There very similar to sato rearsets in design.

They look great no doubt! The only thing that's kept me from buying the knock offs was cause I was unsure of the fit and quality, otherwise they look good. I might look into ordering a set yet tonight.

...and I am having more and more confidence in Chinese CNCed billet stuff as the years go on. I have never had anything Chinese that was not of high quality. I still have fitment concerns with moving parts like levers but the stuff I have purchased has always fit perfectly as far as I can tell. Only problem I had was sending an item back because I ordered it for a ZX-10 insead of a 14. The seller told me to reject it and it would come back to China free. bad idea. No tracking # with a package reject. Of course the package never returned and I lost my $80. Lesson learned. Pay for return and get tracking # or just keep your mistakes...whicjh I should have done cuz the ZX-10 axle slider pucks would have fit another axle rod I from the same seller later on.

A metallurgist tested Chinese levers with lab equipment and concluded they were as good as Pazzos.. just slightly lower grade metal but not really significant. this was a thread on hayabusa.org

Did the rearsets come with the brake light switch? Do I need to worry about the duty(tax) when I order? And who was the seller? Sorry, I've got a lot of questions.

Looking good Casper, how about those see through covers, I just put a stator cover on gixxer 1000 and it vibrated like crazy, had to tighten every bolt around the see through cover.

Rofl...most all the cosmetic look good stuff on my bike is either from hong kong, china, exc.it only thing ive found is that all parts with bolts you gotta redo with locktite or they will vibrate loose. But ive had the same issues with stuff from us sellers. Really didn't have any issues with part fiment. You gotta be careful with the anodized parts tho. Can scratch easily from tools. Painter's tape all parts that a tool may touch during install. Plus at the low prices that I got most parts I was willing to gamble a lil bit if it didn't work out.

Cornelius. Not sure about the duty tax. Brake lite switch was included. But I didn't install It as i usually just use the front brake mostly. Even when im stopped, I pump it as cars approach from behind to make sure they see me. Ill post up some links of stuff I've bought.

Grn fairly easy it install. I have one on my zx10 and love it. Really not needed for the street, but great for track days. Makes clutchless up shifts under full power so smooth. Its a stand alone unit that plugs directly into spark pluggs. No pc5, bazzaz needed. You do have to have rear sets with shift rod tho.

Yes, often the stuff is so cheap that it does not pay to return it if you're not 100% satisfied.

Thanks blk!

I sat for over a half hour starring at my bike trying to decide if I wanted green or black. Finally came to the conclusion that my bike already has the perfect amount of green so I ordered a black set.

Thanks for sharing your goodies with us!

Ok hers's an update on rear sets. NOTE: As delivered manufacture states the set up is for standard shift..
I never tried install as standard shift, as i wanted the reverse shift pattern or GP shift as others call it and will be installing an Anntori quick shifter at alater date..

Installation of rear sets was pretty strait forward. Took a while to get shift rod set up to where i'd like to get shift lever to be.
Note: Rear sets will not work for reverse shift as delivered. Modifications will be needed!
1. Shift adapater when reversed will touch or bind on lower plastics.
2. May also have interference with kickstand. I have an adjustable one. Stock one may not be an issue.
3.Shift rod is at a wierd 45 degree angle. Will interfere with shift lever as it sits on top of it no cleaance for lever when shifting down.

Here is what I did to get them to work to my likeing. You may have to modify this for your set up. Also I wear a size 13 inch shoe/boot so i need exta space for shift/brake pedals for better feel.

1. Setup comes with 2 small brass spaceces on bolts for shift rod. I uesed those when attaching shift rod to shift lever.
2.You will need 2 1/2 inch spacers attached between frame mount bracket and shift lever mount. This is to get the shift rod at a straigt angel. I used the longer bolts that come with the kit as i used stock bolts to mount frame bracket.
3. you will also need to use 2-4 1/2 inch washers to foot peg. Make sure that the washer that comes with the foot peg setup is used next to shift peg. It has and indent that is needed so that foot peg bering doesn't bind.
3. You may also need a longer bolt for the foot peg to compensate for extra space taken up by washer.
4. I used red loctite on all bolt locations. If not they will vibrate loose at some point.
5. I also used the 1/2 inch spacers on the brake side to even things out.
6. Used a 1/2 inch spacer and longer bolt on lower plastic bolt mount to get clerance of shift rod on plastices. Didn't want to cut a notch in plastics for shift rod.

Hope this helps some one.

Pictures are of final set up. I did a 40 mile test run and it all works so far. I will update once i get some more miles in. whish i had taken better pictures of install. I can do a more detailed install at a later date if any one is interested.

It's like you read my mind! I was considering reverse shift, you prob saved me a half a day worth of cussing and swearing trying to figure out how to make it work. Lol

Rofl...man I just spent the last 3 days trying to get it to work correctly. Most of the parts need you can get from your local auto parts or hardware store. Im gonna need a new shift rod once I get the quick shifter. Or have to cut and re drill this one. Just hope I saved some one some time with this mod. That was my main reason for getting the adjustable rear sets.
