Reflectors
03/31/14 7:52 AM

Morning guys. Please forgive my ignorance as I'm not very mechanical....I just ride. But...I'm trying to learn and I believe there are no dumb questions. Soooo... My question is this: on the front the bike on both sides of the front fender are two round approximately 2" in diameter orange reflectors. I want them gone. Feeling like this was something even I could handle after looking at the bracket and seeing it bolted to the forks with just one bolt on either side I grabbed my ratchet, located the appropriate size socket and went to cranking. Bolt out, bracket loose, no biggie. So now I see there is a cable clipped to the side of the bracket that if I remove the reflector and bracket it looks like this cable will just hang there loose. Keep in mind I have no idea what this cable is and how important it is or is not. Without knowing if this cable should just hang there not clipped on the bracket as it comes I promptly put the bolt back in leaving like I found it, ran away with my tail between my legs and crawled into a fetal position sucking my thumb defeated.....lol. How can I remove those darn ugly orange reflectors?

I left the brackets in place on mine and removed the reflectors only. Just give the reflectors a spin and they will come right off the bracket.

Pull the bracket off, and trim it down to the wire holder. Chamfer it smooth and repaint. Problem solved.

I just zip tied mine, you could cut the bracket down, there is a non-USA model that doesn't have a reflector,
I think it's from the Philippines ? That looks good, nuts a bracket to hold the line, but shipping
Is ridiculous ....

I always take those stupid reflectors off. And of course I get pulled over by a BIKE cop who is determined to be the biggest asshole on the force. He tells me I must have the reflectors both on front and back and wants to write me a ticket along with not having the stock headlight, ( mine was a Z1000 lamp on a Streetfighter ZX10R) and that I had to have the stock BODYWORK on!!! WTF!!! Now I know he is lying but come on! This was the first and only time I've been warned about those reflectors so I still pull them off. F- em!! I say.

See Carabusers pic up there. You should be able to fasten a P clip under the head of the bolt that fastens the fender to the fork bottom. ProBolt used to make some fancy anodized P clips but they discontinued. Check online for Pclips or just go the hardware store.

damn they want a lot of money for a (**^!! P clip!

"Keep in mind I have no idea what this cable is and how important it is or is not"...this cable is your sensor for the ABS and the KTRC...if you only have KTRC...it doubles as that sensor.DO NOT pinch or tweak this cable...keep it flowing smoothly along the brake line or the lower fork unit brace(going up to the fender mount).Use care when moving this cable....ziptie it onto either place...but definitely do not damage it by bending or whatever.Do not pull it 'tight' in whatever config you pick.

If you mount it to the fender bracket(the black one)you won't have to repeatedly re-install a new ziptie whenever you remove the fender or calipers for service. The less you wiggle this deal...the better.
