$2000 tire order, it's getting expensive to keep tires on these sportbikes!

Thinking about picking up another sportbike, 2020 BMW S10000RR M Package, 5200 miles and loaded with all the M goodies, M brakes, BMW carbon fiber wheels, Bren Stage 1 tune, Akrapovic Titanium race system etc.

Might want to wait another day. Going to put the fairing back on, sell it and take that money for the next big thing, or one more disappointment for the long in the tooth 14.

Hubster you think my old 14 will spank it?

I was a day off. Probably the short run, but the 14 has legs to leave it up at the top. Probably have to rev it to much to match the low end torque of the 14. You'll find out soon enough.

Hubster, you will get a typical Kruz writeup once I have a few miles on it.

I'm picking the bike up on Thursday morning. They're claiming well north of 200 rear wheel BHP for the S1000RR in this state of tune with class leading low and midrange torque due to ShiftCam technology.

A recent dyno test shows this engine actually outpulling even the Aprilia 1100 at all rpms but revs out 1000 rpm higher, e.g 13,600 versus 14,600.

The power curves were virtually identical all the way from 3000 rpm to 13600 with a very slight advantage going to the BMW at all points on the curve where the 1100 signs off and the BMW keeps pulling.

In real life I'll see how they compare as both machines are now tuned to similar race specs with both bikes lightened, BMW still is lighter.

Sound and engine character both are subjective qualities but Aprilia wins there hands down IMHO.

Wait Hub, are we talking about a new 14R coming out soon? I've seen the numbers on the old 14R and it looks like around 187 rear wheel HP but almost 600 lbs gross weight wet.

Tuned BMWs and Aprilia RSV4s are way over 200 rear wheel HP and coming in at around 420 lbs wet for the BMW with carbon wheels and titanium exhaust/catalyst delete.

The only advantages of the ZX-14 is peak torque and low end grunt. My old ZX-14 is around 175 rear wheel HP but I have lightened it down to about 520 lbs wet and I can hang with an S1000RR in the corners on race tires.

I have been saying for years, Mother Teapot, give me the old 14 with a tuned up chassis/suspension and engine....and lightened dramatically and I'll be first in line to buy one.

Lettuce bee clear, 14R has become too much of a sport tourer and needs to be put on a serious salad and water diet to get my $$$$$.

Bike weight is important, but a 200 lb rider adds more % in weight on a 400 lb bike than 600 lb bike. Also, little things like fuel tank capacity, I'm guessing the Beemer probably has around 4 gallons and the 14s have what 5.5? Sure that's about 9-10 lbs tank full, but that's a difference. Don't get me wrong, weight is weight and a 14 motor in a 420 bike would probably be a sub 9 second bike if someone was crazy enough to ride it (and get it down the strip).

The BMW is already becoming my favorite ride, only my '21 RSV4 and '16 ZX-10R KRT can keep it in sight..

Grn, as good as that new BMW is and it is very good, I rode my 17 year old ZX-14 out there in the same twisties with new track tires on it and it's every bit as good.

That may sound crazy but it's true, on track it might be a different story because of the hard braking zones at the end of the straights and tight ess turns.

The 14 will dig in and come off the corners as hard or harder than anything else and is remarkably agile for a big 'ol girl.

This bike never ceases to amaze me but it has to be on good rubber or it can get a bit scary. The 14 is the original Swiss army knife of sportbikes, I've owned a bunch of them and it's still true, just ask HUB...

What's so unfortunate that the sportbike community dismisses the 14 and Busa as drag bikes. When for the vast majority of liter bike riders they would get just as much or more out of 14 than they will their lightweight track bike on the street.

I guess the young stupid kids may call 14s "boomer bikes" or whatever. But I can also call the young stupid kids clowns, because most will never use 50% of their bikes true abilities, and I'm sure 50% is an extremely small percent. But they look tool.., I mean cool, as wannabe racers.

Thanks Grn, the VTX1300C is the only cruiser I have and thinking about selling it to a friend but not sure if I want to get rid of it. It's a vintage ride, not good for any distance riding but great for hitting the bars....lol!

I also need to start a new thread like this one and call it "My Sportbike Ratings Preference Part II". This one is in serious need of updating as a lot has changed since I started it and the order has definitely shuffled. My new favorite sportbike is the BMW S1000RR and the ZX-6R is now playing tail end charlie, things change.
