ECU flashing question
10/14/19 1:58 PM

Wrecked my 2015 zx14 last July and replaced it with a 2018 H2 SX SE. The wife didn’t like riding 2 up on it so I sold it last week and got a 2017 zx14 se worth 1,500 miles on it in flawless condition. Want to do slip one and flash right away then possibly full exhaust in the future. Who has the best flash right now? Thanks.

Try 2wheelDynoworks up in Washington. Nels does a good job.

Ivan's Performance Products has moved to Greenville, South Carolina.
I've been dealing with him for a good number of years on a wide variety of projects and have never been disappointed.
I have his latest flash on my 2012 ZX14R and am very impressed.
Here's his ZX14R onfo:

Call him for more info.

Schnitz is like 80 bucks and you get everything except fueling. Throw in another $125 and they will give you fueling. That's probably the cheapest flash you can get. Ivan might be better, IDK. I doubt it makes a lot of difference. The best setup would be a basic flash with a PC5 to custom tune fueling. Again, probably doesn't make a world of difference unless you are racing.

Your in N.C. so you could go to Guhls in PA and get a flash and tune at his new facility.

Good Thread!

Everybody has a favorite Tuner/Flash. I've tried 'em all. I think it's Bike dependent.

All of the above mentioned Flashers are good. Depends what you want. What exhaust you're running. And how well you can communicate that to your Tuner/Flasher.

Dude, why did you sell your H2 SX?? This guy VCycleNut is the Man to See about Flashing that one! Nobody does it better!

I don't know where you're at in NC but Ivan is now in Greenville SC. I live 2 hours away and rode mine in and had it flashed a couple of weeks ago. He let me ride his 2012 first and I could tell it was far better than the flash I already had. Much smoother and more responsive.

Stands to reason. As far as AFR tuning is concerned, a flash is still just a map made with another bike with perhaps different mods. A lot of tuners still recommend a PC5 to adjust the AFR they flash. I would think if you get the same pipe as that which was used on the bike the flash was made for, you will have as close to perfect as most would ever be able to tell. There are a lot of other things that various tuners do differently such as mapping for inner and outer cylinders. Timing I'm sure some go more aggressive and others less. All those things might ad up but by now, I would be confident all the reputable tuners know all the same parameters for the ZX-14R. This bike has been around a long time.

Technically, that would be 'Ghoul' I'm sure he's heard all the jokes...

Also, regarding Schnitz, I have heard, and cannot confirm, that he has ripped off other flashes/tunes and resells them... hence the low price. I'm sure you could tell from a brief conversation with them...

Thanks guys! The bike had Graves carbon fiber slip ons and a MRA windscreen already. I was taking dash pieces off to remotely mount a garage door opener and low and behold a PCV and a sticker for a BCM air filter. I don’t think the ECU has been flashed though because the traction control turns back on after key cycle. Should I have it done or just rock the PCV? I also replaced the Graves with an Alien Head and swapped the screen to a ZG Double a bubble and got a Sargent seat

'the traction control turn back off after key cycle'. Uhmmm.first off...WELCOME!...

secondly,I think(but not positive)that the ECU is 'storing the setting' of 'OFF'.If I'm not mistaken,it will default to '1'...from the factory.Pretty sure.So if that's the case, then it has been flashed.I would suppose so if it already has a PCV in there.Plus the mods to the exhaust and filter. Can ya call the person and ask?Or check the ecu in there for a sticker OR a black marker indicating an order number or something.Sometimes they use black sharpies to do that.

Been a while since I checked my TC on startup. How are you changing the TC level?

Sorry. I meant the traction turns back on after cycling the key. So when you turn it off and cycle the key it defaults back to on. I bought it from a dealership so I don’t know the original owner. I might pull the ecu and have a look. It’s easy enough.

Okay.So then it is defaulting.Couldn't remember exactly how that went.BUT,that's no real indication it hasn't been flashed. Some people don't want that function disabled.Just be careful and gentle unplugging the harness connectors. No wiggling up and down.

Guhl has a fix for that. Will retain the TC setting after the bike has been turned off.

The flash is 100% worth it and really wakes the bike bike thru the power band. I went with Guhl's and couldn't be happier! And being able to personally talk to Don Guhl by phone is something that just doesn't happen anymore.

There can be no ECU edit that surpasses the creamy torque of the C-bass flash.

Every C-bass tune comes with a zero money back guarantee and an all expenses paid trip to ClownTown.

Hiya D!

Anyone have VicSteer's contact info? He did a great, albeit dated, review of various flashes. In a small parking lot.

What up Z! No info on Vic. Last I heard he's still riding just not doing the forum thing anymore. IDK about the parking lot. He did have a pretty compelling video of many runs 0 to 180mph with and without a flash. Was quicker without the flash if I recall. ...or not much different. Tuning is fun but so far, I have not noticed a huge difference by the seat of my pants. Some nice improvements down low where I can tell but as far as fast---IDK if AFR alone makes a big difference.
