RE: Ricky Gadson Didn't Get All The Green Ones!!!

Okay...the side covers removal is simple. The two bolts at the rear come out.The front black little one comes out.The rubber cover holder right there has to be pulled forward just past the bolt hole to clear the cover tab(may need to use a flattip screwdriver at first to slip between the rubber and the plastic, but don't force it back too strongly...use the flat rubber tabs that are on the outer side above and below the bolt hole area.Hold the rubber 'tabs' there and pull those forward. The rubber deal will move forward and over the front of the plastic/bolt hole area. There are two quick rivets...one at the top of the rubber deal, and one at the bottom...you'll see them.I removed the BOTTOM one to pull the rubber holder forward easier...but you may not need to do that. The manaul doesn't say anything about those...maybe the service manual will.IDK.You slide the side cover down a bit,pop the projections(which are under the cover there) out from their attachments just aft of the small black bolt(while holding firm pressure on the body of the cover so they don't just POP out),then pulling backwards firmly but slowly/carefully...you rock the cover up and down a bit as you slide back. The front tines are connected two each with a plastic molded slide plate attached to them...they will slide out of the plate keepers at the tips.DO NOT TWIST or yank on the cover in any way.Just work it up and down(at the rear part) and use backpull on it,and it will slip free.Keep an eye on the tines to make sure they are actually coming out(going backwards).Watch the rear part when pulling back...keep it away from the fuel tank side right there.First time's a tad scarey...but now I see how it goes...so it's all good. When reinstalling, make sure the rubber cover holder is lined up with the midfairing cutaway...the outside edge flush with the fairing plastic, and the small roundish part is over the small bolt hole.Reinstall rivet if you've removed it.Use some spit on the projection tabs/holes when reinserting.Make sure the front 'plates' are sliding into their pockets correctly.Maybe a tiny bit of grease would help them to go in...or out for next time.
It sounds complicated at first, but it's really simple once you see what's happening. You do not remove any bolts or screws at the front where the 'plates' are at.Do NOT loosen any brackets there either. The cover will slide backwards and out...just takes a bit of working it.Do NOT pull the cover outwards away from the frame too far...you don't want to snap those plates from the tines up front.
Finally...my Shorai is IN and working fine!

....plus it looks sweet as hell!
OK, it's a little bit heavier but that is twice as much as the best full system gain on the 06-11. I def fealt a great improvement with a full system. DAmn, what is a fully Brocked 2012 gonna make? 200+ for sure.
I still want to see some real world head to heads.
BTW, this is Ricky G's new green machine against a friends 2011 ZX-14.

Okay Snuffy...here ya go.1st...pic of the cover tipsThese slide into(or out of...this part on the midfairing..(the plate pockets)Now...before you remove these, you have to remove the 3 screws(the charger is in the way...they're the two like on the other 14's...in the cover(I put these back in so they wouldn't be lost anywhere)..(the small black one is at the front there)...Okay....once those are out,you pull this rubber piece forward(using a wedge of some sort(flattip screwdriver)by getting the tip under the rubber edge and pushing GENTLY forward while pulling on the rubber flat tabsYou want to fold that rubber holder forward and off the tab right there.(the cover is removed in that pic...the tab would be the one in the top picture...that one. That will be held by the rubber deal.
Once that deal is off of the plastic tab with the hole in it,you grasp the rear of the cover and GENTLY pull the end down till the tabs above clear the tank cover edge(it won't be that far down with the front 'plates' still in their pockets...so don't try to get that much of a space in there, only enough to clear the top tabs).Now...you pop the projections loose by using your right hand behind the cover at the projection and push out, holding the rear bottom of the midfairing secure as you pop those out...one at the upper front there, and one down towards the rear of the cover
This is what you'll be having at this point....NOW...you hold the rear of the cover, and rock it gently up and down as you pull rearward on the cover.Watch your tank side there...don't hit that with the cover.Okay...she'll begin to slide backward a little at a time...it'll feel VERY tight.Use your right hand to feel the plates moving out and kind of steadying the tines right there...just to be safe.It will slide out.Just go slow and don't yank on the cover backwards..Keep working the rear up and down while pulling carefully backwards. The plates will come out of their pockets...just be patient and careful with the pulling....starting to slide out.
I made sure as it was trying to come out that the edge of the plates were actually clearing the lip of the midfairing piece right there. You can gently and very carefully pull just a smidgen outward with you fingertips(your right hand)...left hand holding the rear of the cover.Making sure the plates are not hanging up on the midfairing 'flange' right there where they slide back and out.
Once you get er out...you'll 'see' much better just what's going on and how to do it better nexttime.Popping those projections out....ONLY pop them out of the keepers with your fingers behind em on the cover,do not pull the cover towards you to get them loose.

Thanks for the pics and the description, GRN!
Your the best. I think I have a pretty fair idea of the process now; but won't be sure until I have mine in front of me.
Wasn't in the last shipment to my dealer; but "will be soon". I have the dealer's word that Kaawi will honor the rebate even if I don't get delivery this month. Dealer communicated with Kawi when my bike wasn't on the shipping list this time.
I have no worries there and will inspect and transfer ownership when it comes in but the dealer will keep it for me now that it is salt/ice season until I wish to pick it up in Spring. No charge for storage and I typically hit the streets the first of March.
Keep those informative letters and pics coming; I'm loving it. The more I know before I take possession the better I like it!
Cheers.
