New Annitori QS Pro quickshifter
10/31/14 3:12 AM

I have been looking at quickshifters of late and decided to purchase the new Annitori QS Pro.
It seemed great value at $399AU (including shift rod) compared with the others considering what you get with the Annitori and the adjustments that can be made (HM Plus $630AU and Bazzaz ZFITC approx. $950AU).
I just got back from a 2 day ride using it.
Please see below for a very basic initial review.

As this model of quickshifter is new to the market and relatively untried and tested I decided that buying locally from the Australian dealer was more important than saving a few dollars via an overseas purchase due to the possibility of local support being required and readily available.
Lucky I did.
I picked it up last Wednesday and decided to install it that night ready for my ride the next morning (always a little risky doing work like this just before a ride but I really wanted it on the bike for the trip).
The QS Pro has a simple harness that daisy chain fits into the 4 coils. These coils are quite hard to get at on the ZX-14 due to confined space but with patience it can be done. The strain gauge and main unit assenbly then plug into this. However a blanking plug to be inserted into the harness outlet is also supplied should you need to disconnect the quickshifter for any reason and go back to running stock through the installed harness.
I removed all required fairings and fitted the harness to the 4 top coils. I then added the blanking plug to start the motor to ensure all was good before continuing with the rest of the install.
It didn't start!
I unplugged and carefully refitted the harness incase I had made an error.
Still no go.
I was pretty disappointed because I thought I wasn't going to be able to fit the quickshifter to my bike for the up coming trip and so thought I'd call Nick, the distributer/seller to see if he may have any idea of what was happening and a possible fix.
Although it was around 6.30pm at night, Nick said he'd be over to my house with a new replacement harness!
Now that's what I call service with a capital S...
He came over and we changed the harness and bingo. Perfect.
I thanked him for his time and said I could take the install from that point but he said "I'm here now so let's do this and make sure all is good for your ride".
The rest of the install was straight forward and easy, and was completed in no time.
I can't thank Nick enough for his after hours service and his time.
Incredible!
So service and support on the Annitori QS Pro (in Australia)?
11 out of 10.
For anyone in Sydney Australia, call Nick from Superbikesource should you be interested in the QS Pro.
Great bloke.
So the next day I was with the boys on the road with the bikes.
I had an initial play and 1-2 and 2-3 changes were a little clunky. However I will rarely if ever use the quickshifter for these gears.
3-4, 4-5 and 5-6 were smooth and crisp.
The more I used it the more I started to realize how good this thing was.
On higher speed runs it really came into its own.
It was brilliant to be able to click through the gears while holding the throttle on hard and no mucking about with the clutch. Just selected beautifully. Especially under a solid load at high revs.
I though the unit worked flawlessly and am very pleased with the purchase.
I called Nick during one of our breaks to personally thank him again for his efforts the night before and he advised the slight clunks in the 1-2 and 2-3 changes could be adjusted out with slight sensitivity and kill time changes.
Now on this.
The QS Pro is adjusted with your mobile phone.
But your phone has to have NFC (near field communication) capability. Now most iPhones including mine (except iPhone 6) dont have this so I will have to purchase some kind of dongle to make this work.
And something I was surprised with and a little disappointed was there are no setup instructions with the quickshifter kit.
Apparently these are coming but strange to release a product without something as important as this.
Not the end of the world as the unit works great out of the box but it would have been nice to have.

As advised this is only an initial basic run down and as I ride more will add further feedback.

Awesome write up!!! Looks freakin sic! I am installing one for a customer on saturday morning and I'm excited to mess with it! Yeah, the 1-2, 2-3, kill times may need slight adjustment, there is a bit of a learning curve to it as well, getting that rhythm down makes a difference. And I will say, shifting GP, allows a quick stab and shift occurs without a thought! Man! I'm kinda jealous! I want one! You have some pretty sexy freakin equipment right there sir!

RE: New Annitori QS Pro quickshifter

Hey Cblast,
Really happy with the shifter at this stage.
Only thing it doesn't have which would have been great is individual gear kill time settings.
But then I read somewhere that Annitori were trying to keep the cost down and find a balance with the overall price of their new quickshifter and this option would have increased RRP considerably.

If you are installing, some things to watch out for.
Careful with that new harness. I am hoping it was only a one of problem for me and not an initial production batch issue and you do not have the same challenge.
If you connect the Annitori harness and remove again for whatever reason, watch out for those little red rubber oval type grommets that fit into the bikes female coil connectors. They like to either drop out or come out in the male section of the harness connector. There was a recent thread from wfozx14 finding one of these little buggers on the floor after doing work on the bike and enquiring what it was from. They obviously are not a tight fit as I also found.
Lastly Annitori are still working on their phone app for adjustment of the QS Pro so there is nothing in the instructions for this yet. You must have a NFC optioned phone to do this. Unfortunately all Apple mobile phones except the new iPhone 6 do not have this function which is a pain because I have an iPhone 5.
I wrote to Annitori and they kindly and efficiently sent me a work around straight back but it seems pretty open to causing an issue with the quickshifter if you get it wrong so I will be waiting for the official app to be released as the unit closely works to what I require at the moment anyway.
I have a feeling that could be a while coming though.
I have added this below for you incase it is of any assistance.

Here is the temporary app for setup on the QS PRO:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nfc.apps&hl=en

Download this to your phone.

This is a temporary solution for you very early customers who have our shifter before our Annitor App is completed.  Once we have our App, disregard this entire procedure and delete the NFC-v app program off your phone.

After you have downloaded this app, make sure your NFC antenna is turned on.  A small “N” icon should show up by your signal strength, etc., bar on your phone.

Then, open the NFC-v app.

There will be a front screen, instructing you to “Place your phone close to a tag”.

Place your NFC antenna (usually the back of your phone) on the BLACK side of your QS PRO controller.  NOT the aluminum side, but the side with the black potting fluid.  You will hear a  ‘beep” sound when the antenna on your phone and the antenna on the controller have matched up.  You may have to slide your phone around the controller a bit to find where your antenna meets ours, but generally speaking our antenna is towards the half of the body between where the wires are coming out.

When you hear the beep, stop and hold the phone in that spot.  A new screen will appear with all sorts of “mumbo jumbo” computer stuff, just ignore all of it and look in the bottom right hand corner for the button that says “Basic Format”.  (if you do not get this screen, simply lift your phone away for a second and place it back on the controller.  Sometimes NFC apps “miss” and you just have to reset.)

After you hit “Basic Format”, you will get a screen that has a long column of button choices.  Top one is the only one we want, it says “Read”.  Click this button.

Simple screen now, left box says “From” – always keep this as 0000, (4) zero’s in a row.

The second box says “Nb Blocks”, touch this with your finger to the right of the number “1”, hit backspace and enter the number “2”.

So you will have “From 0000” – “Nb Blocks 0002”.

(Do not enter any other number except “2”, as this will open up all sorts of possibilities for making a complete mess of your controller!  ONLY “2”, and if you make a mistake just back out and start again)

Hit “Read” at the bottom the screen.

Two rows appear.  “Block 0000” and “Block 0001”, with 4 columns of boxes next to them.

“Block 0000” is your “PUSH” direction control.  “Block 0001” is the PULL direction row.

The 4 columns are:

Column 1 – this is to turn on/off the direction.  Enter “00” and the use of this direction is OFF, “01” and this direction is “ON”  So if you put “00” into the first column of “Block 0000”, you have turned off the PUSH direction of the shifter.  Enter “01” and you have turned it on.

Column 2 – Kill time.

Column 3 – Sensitivity

Column 4 – Open for future use, just leave this always at “00”.

To make changes to a row, simply hold your finger on that row, and a screen will open when you can enter values into each of the four columns.

HERE IS THE WEIRD PART…!!!!

This temporary app uses the hexadecimal system, computer code.  NOT the normal decimal system you all know and love.  For all you computer people you will know exactly what we are talking about…

Your controller should have these settings when received new, although depending on when you received your unit, it may be a bit different and you can change to these settings using the procedure noted above.

                                Row 1    Row 2    Row 3    Row 4

Block 0000 -              01          37            14          00                        (this is the PUSH row)
Block 0001 -              01          37            14          00                        (this is the PULL row)

Now, instead of making this more confusing, when you have been able to do all of the above, contact us and we will walk you through the hexadecimal system if you want to make changes.  If all you want to do is turn off one of the directions, that is easy, just enter “00” in the first column of the Block you want to turn off.  (Remember, Block 0000 is the PUSH direction, Block 0001 is the PULL.)  It is very easy, nothing difficult, but if you want to do more programing than this, it easier to do one on one so you don’t make a mess of everything.

The “temp” app you have there (know anybody who writes Android apps, as the people we paid seem to be making a nightmare of this!) works in the hexadecimal system, not normal decimal.  Here are the range of hexadecimal numbers that should cover any changes you would want to make.  The first number is the hex, the second is the decimal equivalent shown in milliseconds for this list:

30 = 48ms

31 = 49ms

32 = 50ms

33 = 51ms

34 = 52ms

35 = 53ms

36 = 54ms
37 = 55ms

38 = 56ms

39 = 57ms

3A = 58ms

3B = 59ms

3C = 60ms

3D = 61ms

3E = 62ms

3F = 63ms

40 = 64ms

41 = 65ms

42 = 66ms

43 = 67ms

44 = 68ms

45 = 69ms

46 = 70ms

47 = 71ms

48 = 72ms

49 = 73ms

4A =74ms

4B = 75ms

Regarding kill time, the higher the hex number the longer the kill, pretty obvious.

Regarding sensitivity, the higher the number the MORE force required to get the kill signal.  Here are the number you would use for sensitivity:

25, 24, 23, 22, 21, 20, 1F, 1E, 1D, 1C, 1B, 1A, 19, 18, 17, 16, 15, 14, 13, 12, 11, 10, 0F, 0E, 0D, 0C, 0B, 0A, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3

So at “3” you will breathe on the shift lever and get a kill signal, and above 25 will be too stiff for most modern bikes.

HAHAHA

Sorry, I gave up after "Download this to your phone." Wow, that sounds like quite a setup but if you have need for the features, you figure the tech stuff out stuff out and it becomes second nature.

Glad you're liking the shifter. That knuckle bracket looks very nice. Looks like you could set it up to clear the side stand spring peg if you switch to GP shift but I think you will still need to trim a bit off the fairing.

I'm pretty sure my kill time is 65 ms. There's a quick jerk between gears that is stronger in the lower gears but I don't find it alarming. I'm hitting the upshift with open throttle so of course there is going to be a small jerk.

Yeah, the stop gap measure to setting changes looks complex doesn't it.
But I guess it's just for emergencies until the official app comes out.
I only added it for Cblast incase on the off chance he needs it.
Again, my current QS Pro is perfectly acceptable out of the box until the new app comes out as it only needs minor tweaking.
Plus I don't seem to be having any of the issues that some have experienced pushing them towards GP shifting so I will be leaving mine on a standard shift pattern.

I'd rather stick with standard but wearing leathers and boots and in a crouch, upshifting is impeded a little more.

Yannih,

Great wirte up man.

Where did you get the shift rod adapter that attaches to the shift rod shaft? Did it come with the quick shifter?

Mate, the kit I got was totally complete.
Nothing else required.
I have Striker rearsets and everything that came with the Annitori QS Pro was all that was required to install.
I also thought that the kit coming with shorter shift rod included in the price (after asking what size was required) was a nice touch.
But perhaps this is only in Australia???

Ah, Sorry Blkcasper.
The pic you have taken of the arm that comes off the clutch spline/shaft is a different story.
My one came with the Striker rearsets. Everything that came with these rearsets was really high quality.
That arm definitely didn't come with the quickshifter.
Sorry for steering you wrong there.

Another quick update guys.

I have now been on a couple more day rides and I'm loving this thing more and more!
I don't know if I will be making any kill time or sensitivity adjustments as I thought I would have to.
I have been quickshifting in all gears now and the secret in my opinion is shift at pretty high revs which I wasn't necessarily doing before in the 1-2 and 2-3 gear ranges.
It really has smoothed things out on those lower gears.
I don't use it all the time but when I doing it works a treat.
And when you need quick, seamless, smooth, clutchless, open throttle changes, this quickshifter really comes into its own...

Hi Guys,

An important additive.

If you are thinking of buying one of these relatively new Annitori QS Pro quickshifters,

MAKE SURE YOU BUY LOCALLY AND NOT FROM AN OVERSEAS SOURCE SO YOU HAVE ACCESS TO QUICK AND RELIABLE SERVICE AND SUPPORT SHOULD YOU NEED IT.

I was riding today with the boys and after we were done we stopped to say goodbye and go our separate ways.
I went to restart the bike and it turned over but would not start.
This was very strange and out of the blue as the bike had run faultlessly all day.
So after a lot of discussion and unsuccessfully checking and trying different things to resolve, I remembered the challenges with the new quickshifter installation (see previous post on this thread) and decided as a last resort to get the bike tool kit out, remove the left foreman fairing cover and isolate the quickshifter with the supplied block off plug.
The engine started instantly!
I reconnected the quickshifter and no go starting again.

So...

After the initial install issue with the faulty wiring harness I thought "well, it can happen".
But with today's second issue I am now a little more concerned.

Either I am just a little unlucky with this particular individual unit or these new Annitori quickshifters need a little more development to get them to the overall reliability level that they should be at.

I am definitely not bad mouthing these quickshifters at this stage as after install this unit worked perfectly out of the box till todays problem occurred.
Also I haven't contacted the agent/supplier for resolution at this point as it's still the weekend but after the amazing service I received previously I'm sure all will be okay.

My point is that if I had ordered from overseas to save a few dollars I would be in a world of hurt right now and I don't want anyone to potentially make this mistake.

I will advise what the issue and resolution is once I talk to the agent/supplier.

Good info man as I have finally got my new bike and I am currently instally mine. Hopenit al goes well as the blank8ng plug was not sent with my kit.. ughh..
so where did you mount the gold controller box? Beacsue of the wire lengths and for eas of accessibility mine is going under the rear seat.
the power/ ground and sensor cable's are a little shorter than I would like but ill make it work.

Mine is under the left ram air cover with my PCIII.

Regarding not being supplied a block off plug, this is a fairly serious exclusion as after you get into the very limited area of the bike to splice in the Annitori wire harness between the bikes coils and leads, you need to test that all is done correctly.
This is done by connecting the block off plug where the lead from the Annitori actuator unit would normally go.
If the bike starts, you know your good to continue. If it doesn't you know you have an issue and need to re check.
I know from experience!
So be a little wary there.

I also see you have also mounted the controller box correctly with gold side down and dark side up so the unit can pick up the NFC option for setting adjustments.

Hope it all goes really well for you...

The new bike has the pc5 there so there's no room. Kinda tight stretch for battey connection and shift sensor. Well see what happens. Gonna request block off plug on monday. Thanks

Just spoke with my dealer about the issue.
As usual, service was impeccable.
However the first generation QS Pro quick shifters are being replaced with a MkII model that have resolved some initial challenges and he will replace my MKI unit when they arrive into Australia.

Its all good with me but just advising here for all to make their own calls...

I have one for sale if anyone wants it. I'm going to go back to the HM quick shifter. I don't have an android phone and they don't have shit for the I phone to set it so its of no use to me. PM me if someone is interested. IBe only had it for a month or two tops. Very little use.....

G'day Somefun,

Yeah, I just went to an HM Plus as well.

A brand new one came up really cheap on eBay and i was lucky enough to pick it up.
After my faulty initial Annitori QS Pro was replaced by the distributer with an upgraded MkII version, I sold it for a pretty reasonable price on eBay.

Give that a try if you have no luck here...

I should add here I had nothing major against the Annitori. I just like the little adjustment readout LCD option that comes with the HM Plus rather than relying on external devices to adjust...

Hey yannih, just looking over the bike last week, I noticed the perfect place for that little digital blinga-ding. Remove your helmet lock at the back of the frame and clamp it right in there. There's a threaded screw hole waiting for something cool that needs securing. The wire to the loom can run under the seat just like in my install tutorial. I think i'll try this setup.
