Was not my intent at all WFO, guess I'll just keep my opinions to myself in the future.

I don't remember if it was Rider or CycleWorld on line, but the 10 had a faster 1/4 mile number than the 14. It showed all the top end mph and 1/4 mile times of all the bikes they tested. So your assessment of the 10 sort of pans out like you mentioned.

Hub I think your talking about the 4th gen 10. He had the first gen. It is nowhere near what the 14R can do. Also like I mentioned in my earlier post that feeling of "dynamite" was induced by the ultra light weight chassis (600 sized) and it's shorter wheelbase. I do love the first gens though. Anything that has a nickname like "The Widowmaker" is all right by me.

P.S. I can determine seat of the pants if I made a 9.2 pass or a 8.9 before I get to the ticket booth.

Thanks for that, Mav. Now the question is: First gen 10 beat the 12R when it first came out? I'll wait for a break-in to determine the difference he changes his mind. He may have had it pig'd and piped? Now can it beat the 12R? Are we talking a hair's difference between those 2? The 12 crowd would argue they have it all over the 14 families.

Black'WIDOW' count?

Hub, you do bring up a valid point that I overlooked comparing the two bikes. My 10 had a pc3, flies removed, muzzy can,16t front, and k&n filter. Mav, if you can tell the difference between .3 seconds, you are damn good

You didn't offend anyone really, I'm sure. It was more of a. What?! Moment. Hi race other bikes and you will see, it ride with a buddy and swap, and you will really see the difference.

We all give here as good as we get, so don't take it personally. Otherwise we might think you really bought a busa ;-)

See what I did there? Lol

Honestly I would have went with the first gen 10 over the 12R. You guys might hate me for saying this, but I wouldn't be opposed to swapping to the gen 4 10 and seeing what I could do on it at stock wheelbase. Oh and to Mr. Notch - I live in the south and we race year round. My short 5 years on a bike have been packed full of racing and riding. The launch tells me what kind of pass that I am on. Terrible launch is usually a .20 - Lazy launch is usually a .12 - .19 - Decent launch is an .0X - And so forth... The rest of the track is just the bike doing its thing. Well.. Past the 330' anyways.

I'll agree with that. If your machine is dialed in, and is very consistent, then a subpar 60ft will tell you real quick what your et will be before crossing the line. My theoretical example is based off of riding in car A that runs 10.50's then jumping in car B that runs 9.80's and you likely wont be able to "feel" that you went .7 seconds faster.Thats my experience anyways.

Question maverick, is it beneficial to power shift a bike? Like throttle wide open, and just flicking the clutch between shifts or is the throttle off shift better?

Nastynotch, it's all good, you don't offend anyone, have you had the ECU reflashed ? If not, there is a "safety mode" built into this brute, see Cblast or whoever you choose if you haven't got it flashed,

It will come alive .....

Have fun !

As of now it's stone stock with only 300 miles on it. I figured I would get past my first oil change before tinkering with it, but yes mods are on the horizon
Omega, other than insinuating that I could possibly be riding the ugliest bike ever produced, no I don't see what you did there lol

I find that the 14 (haven't ridden the 14r) is deceivingly fast. I had a 2010 R1 and it actually felt faster than my 14. I know it wasn't but TO ME it felt like it was. Probably because the physical size of the bike is so much smaller but I finally realized that the 14 is deceiving.

I have clutchless upshifted since I started riding. In my experience it is the ONLY way to shift. Fanning the clutch while WOT is just wasted fiber life in my opinion.

Nastynotch - I got the same feeling when I bought the 14R. Rode my very well appointed CBR1000RR 4 hours one way to the dealer, on brand new tires and new gearing (-1 +2). Keep in mind I KNEW this was my last ride on this highly-modified race bike with headlights........ So I may have pushed her a bit farther than most of my street rides contain ;)

Then the ride home on the 14R was...calm. It felt equally as fast if not even slightly quicker. But they're very different animals so I took it with a grain of salt. And mile by mile you start to understand how good it is. It did what the CBR did, only EFFORTLESSLY. I can say once I get her flashed she will remind me how life looks when stuck on top of a low flying missile

Give it time, miles, and a mod or two.

Burn rubber not your soul.

ONE of my more'memorable' experiences with the 14R was....rolling up to 6K,in like 1st...then opening her up and keeping her open...as much as possible....maybe it was second....I don't remember which....but...the second wind of this baby was breathtaking...and I mean that...literally.My head started to swim....My vision got tunneled.Like nothing else I've felt....I HAD to let up on the gas...that's how powerful that 6K hit was....6K on up...with almost full roll on throttle.I did not hit redline....but the torque was incredibly heartpounding;)And that was stock! You MUST try it....if you think she isn't that much different...there's a whole nuther world once that torque curve and HP match up;)

I'm gonna get some more seat time this weekend, and open her up a bit. So far I've been commuting to work and back where it's not really feasible to play with all the traffic. T-ball practice, soccer practice, games, gym, mowing grass, and general family duties always take priority to seat time on this thing, but sunday ive set aside a couple hours of me time. Will report back after said ride.
