HM Plus Lever
05/08/15 3:15 AM

I emailed the HM company out of England two days ago and they have not answered my email yet and I was wondering if anybody knows of any company in the states that carry the HM Plus Lever? This setup is suppose to only replace the footpeg assembly and adds their quickshifter without replacing the full rearset.

Thanks,

Hi. I'd be glad to help you. I am with HM Quickshifter, and based in the USA.

I picked up the NM lever plus about 5 weeks ago.
AND I'M LOVIN IT!
Up shifting without using the clutch AND easing the throttle is awesome.
The most difficult part of the installation was taking off the body work.
Then squeezing your hand in to remove the spark plug connector.
I found having a long handle needle nose pliers handy to hold one connector while plugging the other into it.

I didn't want to go rear sets so swapping out a shift lever was just what the doctor ordered.
I placed my order with HM and it came from Mary in only a few days.

Go for it!!

Actually, it only replaces the lever, right? Neither the footpeg nor bracket need to be touched if the gearshift lever attaches directly to the shift shaft like it does on the Gen1.

I have had the HM plus that goes with rearsets for about 3 years and I love it. The only thing more I could ask for is an quickshifter that auto-blips for clutchless downshifts. HM makes one but it's big bucks.

Not to step on mary's toes here. I love my HM shifter. Their products have been on the market for a few years and I have only heard great reviews about them but....read the last few comments. The title of the thread seems a little misleading. I'm not sure why he's calling it a Healtech Hm shifter. It's a Healtech.

Clutchless upshifts and downshifts for $300? Looks like it's used with stock shift lever and probably works the same with rearsets if you want those. If it works properly, that's very enticing. Healtech's other products are favorably recognized, if this is as good... well do your research.

Enjoy. It's a great tool when going full throttle. Here's a quick vid of mine being used on the dyno.

WildPete,
I noticed you used the clutch to shift from 1st to 2nd. I'm assuming that was not to overload the tranny because of the massive amount of torque from 1st to 2nd. Which begs the question, can you adjust the ignition kill times for each gear? If so, I was thinking that a much longer kill time from 1st to 2nd might allow you to quickshift from 1st to 2nd.

Yes, that is correct. The shift from 1st-N-2nd would cause issues if you mess the shift up. No, you cannot adjust it for each gear. Just clutch it from 1st, 2nd. Some people are shifting from 1st-2nd but I will not chance it.

Next year I'm going to try and get an auto blipper for downshifts installed.

Hi,

The HM Plus Lever Kawasaki replaces the whole shift lever, including the shift peg. The rear set and foot peg are unaltered. Installation is simple, as the only other part is the loom (wiring harness) which connects in-line with each of the plug top coils. So you do have to remove the tank and air box. Installation takes about 20 to 30 minutes.

In my humble opinion it is a sweet piece of kit! mary at hmquickshifter.com

Hmm, just how do you remove the airbox on a zx14? Just messing with you, but seriously could you please tell us what the difference between the 2 lever versions are?

She's thinking Suzuki on this. The 14's airbox is a welded in part of the frame. It's not removable like the plastic airbox of a Hayabusa. All we have to do is pull off the fairings and reach under the airbox to the valve cover where the stick coils are. I hear the 14r is pretty tight under there but that's the only way to access the stick coils.

Here is everything you should need to install the loom to a Gen1. I imagine the Gen2 is very similar in this regard. All other info pertains to installing the HM Plus LCD module under the seat and installing the strain gauge to a shift rod. If you don't want the hassle of installing under the seat, you can put the module where ever you want. I'm now in the process of locating mine where the helmet lock was on my Gen1. If you got the HM PLUS lever, I'm sure the loom can be connected to the coils exactly the same as is suggested in this tutorial.

toledo, I think there is ONLY one version of the HM shifter lever for each major brand of bike. There are several different versions of the HM quickshifters that are NOT built into a lever. The only dif between the HM PLUS Lever and the HM PLUS (without the lever) is that the HM PLUS Lever has the lever, strain gauge and the LCD module built into on piece. The HM PLUS is for aftermarket rearsets that have a shift linkage rod. The HM strain gauge attaches to this rod. The LCD module goes where ever you want to put it. Other than that, the functions are the same.

One is the SS the other isn't. The SS is more expensive for its seamless shift. At least that's what I get from reading the description.

Toledo this is the difference between the Plus the Plus SS/seamless shift
The SS is the Newer technology

"HM Quickshifter Plus SS
This unit is a no frills GP Shifter (listed below). It uses the new HMSS technology as in the GP. This gives the unit the ability to release the power back to the rear wheel BEFORE the preset kill time has passed. So for example if you have set the kill time to 55ms and you have changed gear and the unit see's the gear is fully engaged, lets say in 37ms, it will release the power back to the rear wheel even if this is before the kill time you have pre set."

Kill time adjustments are
Plus - Full 1ms increments
Plus SS - Full 1ms increments and auto with seamless shift

It sounds like the SS is capable of learning when the shift was completed.

OH--well how 'bout that. There is an HM PLUS SS Lever.

"The seamless shift technology dynamically adapts ‘kill time’ and other parameters in real time to provide the perfect shift – regardless of RPM, load, rider style or gear. "

Looks like the SS model adjusts kill time and possibly sensitivity according to gear, rpm, and other factors. Does it do this automotically while you are riding, or do you have to set it up beforehand?

The HM PLUS has adjustable kill time and sensitivity but you set that up beforehand. You get one kill time for all gears. I'd definitely take the SS with adjustable kill times in all gears whether it was automatic or if it was something that needed to be set up prior to operating the bike. Add that to the ability to adjust for engine load and rpm and I believe that would all but eliminate missed shifts. It's another $200 but well worth it if it works. ....but then maybe you want to go all the way to the GP....although I'm pretty sure that is not available in the lever/strain gauge/LCD module all in one config.

I talked to Mary this morning and she said the HM Plus Levers are on back order and she does not expect to get them until Saturday, so I guess it's hurry up and wait.

Right now I can say HM is a GREAT company to deal with.
I purchased the lever Plus for my bike.
Because of this Topic and the discussions regarding the Lever Plus
and because of TolodoUPSguy trying to make heads and tails and understand the difference between the two.
I looked into it and realized that the SS(seamless shift)is the new technology that I really wanted.
After realizing that i sent an email to the info help line to HM.
Asking if I could send my Lever Plus back and exchange it for the Lever Plus SS.
And they Agreed.... for a Fee
Actually a very reasonable fee.
So the Lever Plus was removed from the bike, boxed and shipped back to HM this morning.
HM also informed me the Lever Plus SS would be shipping to the US within the next 48 hours.
and it would be available to me next week.
Mary from HM was of great assistance getting everything organized.
Thanks TolodoUPSguy for continuing to question the Lever Plus and the Lever Plus SS.
All said n done
HM worked with me to make me happy!!!!!

The next time I get a quickshifter, I'm going all out. It's that great of a mod! I'll get the GP if that works with my busa. This sounds better than the Bazzaz QS/TC/AFR.

Glad I could be of some help there Capt10ed. I'm learning right now towards leaving my K-Factory kill sensor on and sticking an air shifter on. Don't want to miss any more shifts while trying to break 200mph. That 183 really ticked me off.
