1 inch Lowered Pegs
08/19/13 6:56 PM

I've just finished installing and riding with my lowered pegs from Knight Designs. OMG what a difference! My legs and knees feel AWESOME! I dont even think I've had to sacrifice any clearance when I lean either. I think this is similar to taking the rubber off your pegs and maybe just a little lower. Either way they were a breeze to put on. Just pop the old ones out and the new ones in! This was on a 2010. I read in some of the how to's something about a bearing and a plate but my bike didnt have that. Anyway, if you are looking to lower those pegs and dont want to drill or anything check em out! Mine are the Sidetrax Tread with the Black Anodized finish.

I've got the same ones and agree wholeheartedly. One of the best mods I have done.

I thought about some of the adjustable type, but someone said they are a bit flimsy. Not to be a prick, but I'd like to see you two guys' rear chicken strips just to give me an idea of how much clearance you are actually using.

Danno, I'm not sure I understand what your asking about/mentioning. And I don't take it as being prick-ish.... lol.

But.... What does ground clearance, and how much tire we are using have to do with wanting lowering the pegs for comfort? Unless.... you are wanting to know if these can be used, and still have enough room to use all the contact patch of the tire. I believe they are still high enough that I would run out of rubber before I drag them in a corner. But I'm not completely sure. I know they haven't touched yet.

I bought these so my knees don't have to bend up as far, not so I can lean over farther. I have nerve damage in one knee, and need all the help I can get (comfort wise).

At the moment, I don't have access to the bike to take pics. If you google the tread design of the Metzler M5 interact that comes standard on the 2012 zx14r, I am using the tire to just below where the elephants trunk is, and the hash near his back/tail - nearest the edge. so probably 1/4" left?

I don't push any harder on the street since I got rid on my 03 R1 in 07-08. That summer, 3 guys wrecked in front of me; 2 of them I had to dodge - or run them over. That made me walk away from bikes for a while, so I didn't become the next victim. Now, if I'm riding with some people that want to outride me in the twistys, I take it at my own pace, and catch back up on the straights.

This page has a picture of the tread. Hope this helps.

these don't run peg feelers so clearance is about the same before touchdown.
If you hang your boot off the edge it will touch first anyway.

The reason I asked is, I run 1/8"-zero rear chicken strips and if I don't keep the balls of my feet on the pegs, my boots drag. A 1" drop may have me dragging the pegs, and I'd like to avoid that if possible. That's why I considered the adjustables.

I'm expecting a set in a few days- I'll try to get some pics of them next to the stock pegs (while they're still in place) for a better reference.

I have had a close look. Without feelers you are better with stock.
If you run feelers the Knight Design Inch beat stock by around half a stock feeler.
The pics are about as close as I could get for comparison.

You defiantly need to reset the rear brake lever and brake switch. Very simple to do.
I found the shift lever did not need adjustment.

I found the shift lever did not need adjustment.

I went three notches down with murphs pegs.

I just put them back on tonight. I ground them, and the rest of the bottom of the bike. Raised the bike back up and ran the stockers to see if anything scraped.

My bike is at stock height.
If your dropping your bike and plan on turning corners on the tyre edge you need to move everything the other direction and try and get your knees up under your chin.

Stock pegs with the rubbers off is a happy medium. While the drop pegs are great for cruising . The corner of the drop is in the way. It pushes your feet further out, which can feel awkward at times. Think pigeon toed. I do like the narrowness of your legs. Mine are like double wides.

None without hogging out the pivot holes.

If your dropping your bike and plan on turning corners on the tyre edge you need to move everything the other direction and try and get your knees up under your chin.

I have the fork tubes slid up to 1 1/4" above the top clamp (3/4" is stock recommendation) Also have the peg rubbers removed. I could still use a little more leg room, but I don't want any peg-dragging.

"If your dropping your bike and plan on turning corners"

The opposite actually.

My plan is raising the rear by 1" and dropping the forks in the clamps by 1/2" to improve handling and clearance.
Same effect as speeding up the steering by raising the forks but achieving more clearance.

It doesnt look like anyone makes raising links, only lowering, so if I cant find links to do the job I will just make a set.

So, because I want to raise the bike, lowering the pegs will only make it way more comfy without compromising anything.

Same as I did to my last road bike with the raising plates.
Using the whole tyre and never scrape anything

Question is. Will the stock shock go another inch up. Also the swingarm will be shorter with the stock chain.

Not sure what you mean by that.
Youre not altering the shock or its travel, just changing the relative position of the swingarm.
Same as when you lower the bike.

you lowering the front and raising the rear actually pivots the pegs higher in reality banana man.
The US guys dump the lot with links and straps and ride street. That was my point.
There has been more than a few sumps and under tails fall victim to it.

I'm running the Knight Design pegs and we mainly use the bike from drag racing. Great product. I was lucky enough to have purchased them when they were selling for roughly half what they're selling for now.

2009 Monster Edition ZX14, 70" wheelbase, 16-46 gearing, air shifter, Shinko Drag Radial. 2005 Turbo Hayabusa, 74" wheelbase, 16-43 gearing, foot shifted, Shinko Drag Radial. 2001 GSXR 1000, long, low and not stock.
