San Diego/Durango/Grand Canyon

Another reasonably successful Durango trip in the books!
Started from San Diego on Thursday, June 7th, just a straight shot to Phoenix, followed by a night of partying with some good friends. San Tan brewery was kind to us and the Caps won the Stanley Cup. Wasn't a particular fan of either team, but could not have Vegas win the damn thing in their first year...that just ain't right!

Left Phoenix morning of June 8th, and rode out through Superior, Globe and eventually to Show Low. Beautiful ride, nice canyon to go through with some nice turns. Caught the eye of a trooper, but only a stern talking to, got away with a warning!

After that mini heart attack...just a long (though relatively cool) ride across the high desert to Durango, just under 500 miles on the day. Thank you baby jesus for GenMar risers, ThrottleMeister, Buell pegs and Corbin seat.
I stayed at a hotel in Durango that night (mainly to secure hot tub) and my hotel was over-run with bikers of a different kind. Turns out one of the big MCs was having an event in Durango. All Harleys...all the time!

One of these things is not like the others! Oh, and the MC in question...google away on the Choir Boys MC.

My plan Saturday was to ride the 550 to Silverton/Ouray etc but I was foiled by the 416 fire.

Thankfully the air quality in Durango and Lake Vallecito (where I had a cabin for the week) was very good for the most part.

No luck on the lake fishing, but as always, it was just beautiful out.

Then decided to do a ride to Creede, east of Durango (550 remained closed the whole time I was there). Started on the 160 towards Pagosa Springs, some great views, especially climbing up a 3 mile dirt road to a scenic point called Lobo.

After the lookout point, rode to the little town of Creede. Really a nice ride along a river, great sweeping turns, high speeds, good times. Highly recommend Kip's Grill in town, happened to catch them on a Buffalo Enchilada special day, damn good eats!

On the way back, stopped at a cool little, slightly rickety bridge over one of the rivers off 160. Momentary thought of, "Sure hope I don't drop the bike and/or myself into said river", but all was ok.

In Pagosa Springs, this brewery just plain spoke to me and they had a lovely Kolsch on tap called Man's Best Friend.

I even found a cabin near the lake I felt I should be able to buy for a pretty good price!

Left Durango on Thursday, June 14th, and made the ride to a place called Jacob's Lake on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, here are some pictures.

After that, nice ride the next day to Laughlin for a bit of unsuccessful gambling, then home to San Diego via superslab, though not much to report or photograph.

Cheers!
