Front Brake Shudder
01/05/10 6:07 AM

I know this has been raised before, but I could not find it. Some guys in SA on ZX 14's are complaining about the front brake shudder when braking from higher speeds. Some of you indicated that a front tyre change has resolved the problem, but not here. Kawasaki SA is not admitting or even acknowledging that there is a problem and I was wondering what the situation is over there? My 07 is also doing it after 17300 Km and I have tried to use both brakes when stopping and also avoiding braking hard from high speed. What gives?

Maybe a bent rotor?? Sometimes new brake lines will fix it if the old ones are starting to get mushy, they will start to give under the pressures of higher speed braking

A front tire change fixed my front end shudder. The 14's very aggressive front brakes are hard on front tires....mine was shuddering with about 2500 miles on the front bridgestone.

Low tire pressure? ... "mine shuddering with about 2500 miles," says I only use the front brake for stopping. That means, high speed giggle runs is shutter the thought you neglect air pressure or know the bike eats soft compound tires quite rapidly. The smileage buildup coming up on the tire, will eventually hop, for a quick grab of the binders to induce the head bouncing you receive is like a grass skirt girl bobbing her.... you know... on the back sun deck of the car window an shit. It is what it is you load the springs that tight she harmonics.

And when you feel that happening, you unload the brake lever the instant you feel it, reapply and she goes away, you have steering control again. Ask me how do I know experiencing this quite a lot? Buy applying the brakes when the exit ramp is short, traveling over a ton knowing there is a greasy cement transition coming up quick.

Not bent rotors. New braided brake hoses on my 06 made it worse. Even a new tyre makes no difference, and the pressures are ok. Head bearings are also ok. My 06 was dangerous when braking hard from 260 plus. The bike would shake very badly. My son in law does not ride as hard as I do, (he bought the 06 from me) and he is wanting to replace the discs, but at R8000.00 each in SA, that is a lotta money.

Harley-you might try this.....remove your pads-sand them down with some medium sandpaper.Nothing extreme mind you-just clean them off. Then do the same to your rotors there-inside and outside.Wipe the residue off with a dry cotton cloth.Reinstall.Brake gently but firmly for a few times. And DO NOT HOLD THE LEVER while your bike is stopped.Release it just before you come to a complete stop. That solved my judder issue.New tire won't hurt either.

... also,

make sure that there isn't a build up of road grim and brake dust on the Rotor "Buttons".

There is supposed to be a bit of movement between the outter rotor and inner rotor.
If there isn't any movement it prevent the outter rotor from centering itself against the pads.

Check that first. It easy and its.......FREE!

Shutter to say you hold a drum stick in hand. You bang the drum head once. The stick moves up on the first reaction like a low rider with some air bag dancing the front end up and down. If you hold the stick, let the stick keep popping off the skin, does that not cause the stick to vibrate faster beats as it stops from 260 plus?

Tuning the fork with a few screw clicks will be part of this process scenario you cannot leave out. If all things check off the list: New tire, tight front end, balanced wheel, etc., then a little fork oil travel needs a little redirection of both directions.
