Hi guys,
I said I would do a quick review on these once they were received and installed.
So...
They cost me $499US delivered to Australia.
Packaging was A1 with all parts protected to a very high level.
Instructions were in Japanese but I don't think that is a major issue as they were very straight forward to construct and install but the basic pics in the instructions advise all you need. I actually downloaded the instructions and had them translated in to English (broken) via Google translate but again not that necessary.
Please see pic for parts after they were removed from their excellent packaging.
The quality was superb. Really very good kit. Everything was there, and everything looked like it was constructed to an exceptionally high standard.
The fit I believe was the highlight. Everything fitted perfectly the first time and design of the brake cylinder and brake light switch mounts was top notch.
I noticed when reading other rearset reviews that this particular accessory was needed to be purchased here and an extra modification or two was required to be performed there.
Not these.
Straight on.
All linkages were very solid and all bearing high quality with no slop or excess movement.
The look is extremely smart and I really liked the symmetrical look of the heel guards supplied with the kit. So many other rearsets come with left and right heel gaurds not matching and some even come with none!
The pics below of the rearsets installed also show how I left my carbon heel guards on under the rearsets which required a little modification (to the carbon fiber parts) but I thought it was worth it because I liked the look better. The right cover also covered more of the brake cylinder (check earlier pic in this thread to compare). Obviously this does not need to be done and would eliminate any external modification if left stock.
The total range available is 20 mm up and 20mm back (in between distances are supplied above in one of my earlier posts). Mine are set all the way back and up.
I went for a ride yesterday and loved the difference these have made. I feel they automatically get me into a better riding position not to mention the obvious benefit of further clearence.
When I get a chance I will make some minor adjustments on clutch pedal height.
I have added a pic from the first ride with the new rearsets taken by one of our local photographers who hangs out where the motorbikers ride.
Negatives.
I do not use GP shift but if that was required I can't see how this would be possible without modification due to clearance issues with the side stand. I know this may turn a few people off and should definitely be checked if you require this shift mode.
Plus the tightening bolt on the actuating arm that comes off the clutch spindle was on the inside (front side) of the fairing making it a little hard to get to and necessitated a couple of the left fairing screws to be removed for access. But if someone does get the GP shift happening and the actuating arm is rotated 180 degrees downwards then the tightening bolt would then be more accessible and on the rear or outside of the fairing which is probably the way they designed it as racers had the majority of the say on how these were setup.
A couple of further points.
I am reviewing for ZX-14 only as this is the bike i have.
But not for the ZX-14R.
So please do a little further research if you have a 2012 or later.
Also I have no affiliation with this product or manufacturer.
These are just my opinions.
Lastly the purchase service was excellent from a New Zealand gentleman living in Japan. He was extremely helpfully but the rearsets did take approximately 5-6 weeks to arrive as the manufacturer had run out of the ZX-14 version and so had to be made. However once shipped the waiting time was minimal. I'd say it was shipped airfreight.
I can also pass on his details should anyone be interested in purchase or further enquiries.
Overall I am extremely happy with these and think they were worth every cent I paid and every extra day I waited for them.
Hope this helps and please let me know if I can answer any questions you may have.
