My original tires with 3200 miles on 'em are providing less-than-confident feeling these days, and I'm supposed to do a Blue Ridge Parkway ride in September ... I know, a couple months off, but ... I thought I'd start lookin' now, and go ahead and get 'em if a deal comes up.

I think I'd prefer the Michelin Pilot Road 4 GT ... but am open to other suggestions.

Try Cycle Gear or Competition Accessories. They have deals on sets of tires on occasion.

Motomummy is a good place. I'm liking my M7RRs although now that I've had them a while I don't think overall their as good as Q3s. We'll see if they wear better though.

Chapparral has the lowest consistent prices on tires although others like Motosport, Jake Wilson and Motorcycle superstore often run sales that are nearly unbeatable short term.

I'm tempted to buy a pair of Bridgestones myself. My M7s are probably 50%, and I have a pair of Q3s but I'd like to save those for maybe a track day or something (a fella can dream can't he?)

PR IVs are pretty much a sport-touring tire in any case. The "GT" designation is something several tire makers have added to tires that have stiffer sidewalls for heavier machines. I have been running the Pirelli Angel GTs which have superceded the standard Angels. Angels were good tires, but after a modicum of miles they displayed signs of deteriorating handling on 500+-lb. machines due to the more flexible sidewalls. This may have been the issue with the Michelin PR IIIs, but the manufacturer never said much about it. They were certainly not on the market for very long before the IVs came out.

Welcome man. I was going to get the pilot rd4 myself but I wasn't riding as much. If I get 7k-8k out of them I'll be happy. But I'm riding more now. Done 4k miles in last 2 months. So figure I got maybe another 2 months on these. Then I'll most likely get the pilot rd4. I got double the milage out of those. About 12k-15k. Lasted me over a year.
so in the long run pilot rd4 is a beter buy. 1 set of tires versus 2 sets a year

I've got 2400 on my M7RRs. The fronts probaby got about 1500 miles left and I'd say the rears about 1000 miles pushing it (will be using wear bar tread).

I definitely want to get something that'll hold up a little better.

How are you getting that many miles from a tire??? I was really hoping to get some decent miles out of the PR4 rear that I put on in May, but now after 4,800 miles it's almost done. The front still looks good.

My current approach is to buy basic Pilot Powers because they are hella sticky and are much cheaper than the touring tires. Yes they are more expensive in the long run because you go through them quicker. I can get a pair at Performance Cycle here in town installed (off bike) for 95 (front) + 145 (rear) + 40 for mounting, so $280 installed on the wheels. I don't put on enough miles to go through them THAT quickly, and I don't like how long-life tires get after a while.

tooncinator LOL yeah it sounds crazy but maybe all those trackdays I have done have made me a much smoother r8der on the streets. Also im not a real heavy guy, I'm about 180 with full gear on. Also suspension setup plays a big part in tire wear also. Even on the sports performance tires I get pretty good milage out of them. Typically about 6k-7k. Believe it or not I end up wearing out the fronts before the rears. I typically ride anywhere from 500-1k miles a week. 100 mile round trip Communiting to work, 200-400 miles of twisty back roads on the weekend. Plus the roads here in California are pretty well maintained and some what smooth. If you live in area's where they salt the roads for snow and such will also cause tires to wear faster because or road conditions. I got 12k-15k out of the pilot rd3 in about a year of riding. Also my bikes are lowered and even stretched 10 inches. .

As you can see from pictures above my tires are worn evenly with about 4k on them. My bike is currently lowered about 2 inches front/rear. Stock length. Thats after about 3 months of riding. :)
