Hey Rook, windscreen ?
04/18/13 7:48 PM

Sir, is there any craziness involved in swapping out my factory windscreen for the DB? Just the plastic instrument panel surrounds removed to access the well-nuts correct? 3 - 4mm Allen head screws and a gentle up and out for removal of panels? Thanks in advance!

It's very simple... Only the 6 bolts holding the screen in. That's it.

You will have to pop the rubber nut gromits out of the stock screen and put them in the new one. I took my time taking them out and putting them in with a small flat head screw driver. I have heard of others breaking the tabs off so take heed and take your time.

All in all was about a 15 min job.

I should have my ZG Double bubble today. Couldn't stand the way the stock pipe guards and heel guards stood out. I like darkness better! :))

Do the plastic fairing inners have to be removed first? Or can the screen just be undone and removed?

CBlast, I love, love love, did you use engine (heat) paint for that affect? Do tell I like the look.

Remove the Windscreen by undoing the bolt. Then carefully remove inner. apply inner to new screen and away you go...

Love the look C

Looks very nice!

I've had good luck rattle canning myself. There is a technique to it but you can get professional results if you take the time.

I feel like some one spacial...being asked fopr by name in a thread title!! Almost like someone else around here we know....

BTW, Cblast, I responded to your PM. Everything clear? Easy. Take out the 6 windscreen screws, take out OEM windscreen, remove well nuts from OEM screen and stick in ZG screen, install ZG reverse procedure of removing OEM.

Got the message! Got the windscreen! Got it done! Followed your guidelines in the instructional you wrote and only tightened 1/4 turn once I felt the rubber compress! Thank you sir! :)

Maybe I have been too much of a pussy about actually wrenching on my new girl. But dang, she is fing flawless. In the past I have been guilty of perhaps a small amount of impatience. :) taking my time I had no problems with the first service nor anything else. I just want to preserve the flawlessness! :)))

Yep, I've gotten over that a bit but still cringe if I get a little ding or scratch. Just about anythng can be fixed though.

Just leaving those windscreen fasteners 1/4 past where you feel them start to compress should be all you need. Not even finger tight. Same for the other well nuts. The one on the point of the tank fairing is the one to watch for. That one cracked on mine and needed to be replaced. It goes right into the air box so it's not a thing you want falling off inside if you need to remove it. I just twirl my allen wrench between my finger and thumb on the well nuts now that I have busted a couple.

C Blast that blacked out look with the pipes and sheild look Effn amazing. Rook is yours double bubble like C's?
Rook the pin stripping on your bike, I think it's pin stripped - sweet man!

As for the flawless comments, not losing sleep over a ding or a scratch. I'm just going to ride and enjoy! Had to many bikes in show room condition and the hour plus detailing (like my boy beast says) kills the enjoyment for the ride. Ie should I ride in rain, or take it today because of rain. Screw it I'm just gonna ride baby, clean and keep flawless when and if convenient.
Cheers!

Yeah, I try not to be a fair weather rider! Sometimes I just don't want to freeze my azz off! :)) but the wind protection is excellent with the DB! I really love the blacked out look! Got that darkness comment from a total stranger and it has just stuck in my head! I think that is gonna be Priscilla's middle name. :)

There's a brother, who street races, the King of Cali, Smokie is his name. Fastest dude on a Busa etc...Anyway the brother rides in the rain as it is, according to him, the best conditions to practice control and acceleration. I just wince at the thought of all the cleaning I have to do when she comes home after a rain soaked rip. But like I said I am getting over it! Got to be more focused on riding than my own personal pursiut of self indulgent showmanship. Something I think I lost hundreds of hours to following. my new found attitude - ride, ride ride.

Awesome wolf! I have always found huge value in off traction situations and have considered myself a student of riding since about 7. I watched a battle between Wardy and Johnson back in the day and it made me want to be better. I have always ridden 'the pace', and used it as a valuable tool, doing so in inclement weather increases its value. I definitely push it hard sometimes and what this bike brings to the table is that high level of TC to take a good rider and give a little greatness. I love this machine. The more I ride her the more I believe we are all riding greatness and will only fully appreciate it years from now. This bike not only elevated the game for riders like me pursuing excellence in riding in ALL areas, it changed the game. This bike has a special feel to it unlike any other. To ride it is to know. I have searched and built and tweaked to chase down what this bike offers stock. To have her in my garage and be able to touch her and ride her is remarkable to me. Slow subtle improvements and the willingness to go backwards with mods if an 'improvement', doesn't, will be my approach. I wish I could ride with a few of y'all, a few that have felt 'The Way of The 14R'. :)))

C - what this bikes brings to the table is unlike anything I have had before. I respect her, but also ring her out - when I can...

My plan is to ride, ride, ride. At 40, I've got ten years on the zx - then a couple of enduros and riding with my kids.
So with that ceiling in mind, whatever improves performance - bring it. Looks, eh it's secondary.

Gotta say C, you bike looks crazy sweet, wow I thought green was nice. Dam homie!

I have a blue Puige DB and it fits very nicely. I prefer the shape of OEM though so I got the Yanna Shiki. Nice semi translucent blue but crappy fit. I will have to cut the perimeter down to fit in the window hole and the glue a new tab all along the perimeter bottom. Prolly the easiest way to do it would be to buy a second Yana Shiki windscreen and cut the edge off and glue it to the first screen....so it will end up costing as much as the Puige. I wish a good windscreen manufacturer made these things in blue OEM replacement.

Yes sir, Rook, hate when they don't fit just right, ie, wind screen and other mod parts.

Rook, did you do your own pin stripping, do tell.

Rook ... I have a blue Puige DB and it fits very nicely

I've got a blue Puig DB also. Fit and finish is perfect. It provides a bit more coverage than stock.

Wolfman ... My plan is to ride, ride, ride. At 40, I've got ten years on the zx - then a couple of enduros and riding with my kids.

At 65, I'll be happy riding anything in ten years
