still don't get the fact that duc can run a 1098 in 1000cc comp, zx is doing great and a sec off the aprilia, a win would be great.

ethin14 thanks for posting that video. I used to sit at the bottom of the corkscrew (Screw Crew) at Laguna Seca and I remember the sound of the Hondas at the USGP. Yamaha was trouncing them in the early 1990s but around 1993 that started to change, when Rainey quit racing I think.

I said I'd like to see Kocinski on a modern GP bike, I think he would throw them away far less often and so win a lot.

I'd also like to have seen Rainey and Rossi race, Rainey on his Yamaha, Rossi on his Honda.

privateer ,I envy you , would love to make it to Laguna Seca and see the cork screw for myself, well it may never happen I'll just have to keep saving.

In the closing scene of that video there is a shot of the RC160 6 cylinder 250 racers, another great piece of history and sound fantastic

That scene is taken from Honda's Museum in Japan, would love to go there one day two, just imagine whats shoved in the corners

Funny you should mention this. We were trying to describe to the dad about setting up for the cork and where to be. Before the cork, there is an uphill back straight. The front wheel comes off the ground right before you crest the hill, you slam on the brakes.

You need to be over on the left side. I've seen 2 guys in front of me, fly each other off [between the cork or right side] into the dirt. Either they bumped for the corner, one deer-eye'd the other, or they were too far to the right. The snap left is now too severe. The only save is to stand it up and aim [straight down] the hill. You are in the dirt so, moto down it. What gives? LOL

Slow-in to the right. Fast out to the left. Meaning, you are already tilted to the right, so left means, stand it up. The point is to be upright, because left is farther down more, why are you so far left, you are now aiming for privvy sitting on the grass watching.

your a lucky bastard hub, to ride a bike around that track let alone race would be fantastic

I think I would want something a little more nimble for the corkscrew than a 14, something that would flick a little easier, but like you say , ya got to be in the right position coming up the hill

Rossi-Stoner

This is how you go through the screw.

I bet Rossi wish he could go back to that era.

I hope Lorenzo or somebody is going to challenge Stoner like he challenged Rossi in that race. If MotoGP doesn't get more competitive, call me a world super bike fan.

By the way, Stoner said the move wasn't clean. I think Rossi move was kosher. This is something I don't like about Stoner and Lorenzo, they complain a lot about that stuff. No wonder they get along!

No shit. Rossi said it in the end. I have to agree, Stoner is going to worry more about that baby than his lines. Rossi is R for Racing. "Hi ha hit no boady, I deserve it (you sure do), he ha made a mistakeha. Hand datsa racing!?."

Go to the 10 second mark. Did it sound like to you, Stoner is on the gas first on the 11 second mark?
Go to the bottom of the cork. Sound like Stoner was a split second sooner on the throttle?
Sounds like... Sounds like... Rossi was more in blocking (in the art of) the faster throttle.

I think so but it's so close I'm not sure!!!! Rossi made a great move go straight and cut him off. Overpassing is not about getting lap records!!

What gets me is the late braking!!! He did that to Lorenzo as well. Even now that they are on different bikes you see the riding style difference. Stoner is a cowboy, huge corones. He finally found a bike that can let him take chances somewhat safely= the Honda gives great feedbacks. With the Duc is seems that you're sliding before you know what you did wrong! Better to start you're career with the Duc and then move to Yam or Honda. I don't know how Rossi is going to tame that.

Super Sic died just when he was catching up to the big boys. Who's going to be MotoGP's bad boy? I was thinking C.C but I don't know. I hope it's going to be tight this year. Stoner-Lorenzo and Spies-Cruthlow-Doviziozo

Motorcycle racing is a beautiful sport
Look at the way those guy are one with their machine. Road racing is like UFC fights... raw and really aggressive while motoGP is like Wushu, a ballet. The same tire makes all the rider use the same line.

poetry in slow motion

By the way 1st test in Quatar are promising. Stoner 1st no surprise but the 1st group is tighter...NICE!

I'm getting blow by blow races all day long. This is one of Ty's many team mates with the same logos, same yammie 600's. Tyler is in second running a stock engine. Some others are running pro built engines, but still legal. What happened was, the guy in 3rd was going to pass Ty. Does something stupid, like too close to pass. Hits Ty's bike somewhere? The poor kid's bike then cartwheeled down the back straight when he bumped Tyler's bike. Tyler finished 2nd for that race. The kid was OK, but the bike looks like a bin bike now. Bin the been down the road one time too many.

The racing season has begun full swing.

UPDATE:

Well, not so funny now. The rider is in the hospital going over a few things. I'm going to HIPPA Law this one out. Enough said. This is part of the racing that goes with the sport. How about, most sports there are unknown consequences one deals with.

Update:

This kid needs a $ponsor. This started yesterday morning. I'm getting updates after every race. Saturday was none other than a bad race day. Everyone has one now and then. The best placing was 3rd at the end of the day. I said to my 3rd party, oh it's just the day. Let it end. I bet he goes 3-2-1 on Sunday.

I'm not keeping up one each race, but I hear one race is a close 3rd. Next call, I hear the kid tagged Ty for 2nd. Then, last call I get, I say, stop clowning around. You've got to be kidding me!? If this kid was on a front row bike, not on some 5 year old 12k on the clock, now beat some race miles at it, and she is still running. That says a lot for the brand. That says a lot for the kid. That says he beat two AMA riders for the last race and that was 1st place... On a stock'ear! Did you hear that, Mother TEA?

Do we have a potential in the raw'inn the making? INN means "$$$$" for Transport my assleeps here we are... Race Day!!

Thanks for posting Ethin. Caught some of the race when we stopped during our group ride today! Looks like Stoner didn't have enough tire to push the pace. J L brought his A game, it's nice to see that! I'm glad to see Cal close to the front, too bad he didn't make a podium. This race is good for Stoner that'll wake him a little. Rossi... I don't know what his excuse is but he better produce something. The first year was understandable but this year... no excuse. It's going to be exiting, I may cough up the 100 euros to watch the races at home!

dragking, he said arm pump was the problem, hard to ride with any health issue at that level, they will need to stay on each week or it will hurt them bad in the points.

That bike looks like spares for the next bike he gets, might make a training bike if you got the money to run 2

would be great to see him get some dollars, but at the same time this is character building time for him, but your not young forever

glad he didn't come down as well.

ethin14, its not so sad. It just happens. It happened to Lawson. It happened to Rainey. It has happened to all of them sooner or later.

You start getting older, you lose your edge. Your mind and your heart knows how to do it, but your body often isn't quick enough to implement what you mind and instinct are telling it to do.

But its not sad. Be glad you got to see so many great performances, and how they made so many races way more interesting than they would otherwise be. Face it, MotoGP without some outstanding riders racing for podium right down to the final lap is slightly boring.

WSB is at least interesting, I recognize the technology and can relate it to my real world motorcycle.

A downbeat Valentino Rossi conceded that at present he simply cannot get to grips with the 2012 Ducati after struggling to 10th place in the Qatar Grand Prix.
The seven-time MotoGP champion was a long way off the pace throughout the Losail weekend, and could not match team-mate Nicky Hayden's pace.
While Rossi said an earlier clash with Hector Barbera was a factor in his Qatar result, he admitted that the biggest problem was that the bike did not suit him at all.
"I had big problems at the beginning of the race: when we are on new tyres I struggle under braking," he told Italian broadcaster Mediaset. "On top of that, I lost four or five seconds after coming together with Barbera. I then managed to improve a bit and on the last lap I even managed to set my quickest lap on worn tyres. But it's useless, we struggle to be competitive.
"I can't ride this bike, I can't make the difference, I can't even keep up with Hayden's pace, who I used to go quick against in comparison. In theory, with new tyres I should go quicker. Nicky managed to do a good race with the other works Ducati, but he still ended up only sixth."
Rossi fears that 2012 could end up being even harder than last year, when he took just one podium finish.
"In Jerez testing it went better, sixth with the quicker tyres," he said. "But that's our pace, it's not an attractive objective to be fighting for sixth place. We are used to better objectives.
"Probably we are going worse than last year because we managed to be seventh back then... What can I say? I want to be frank. I can't ride this bike well, even in comparison with my fellow Ducati riders.
"This Ducati has problems: I gave indications over where to intervene, but we didn't solve our problems. Unfortunately I'm no engineer and can't do anything about it. At least the positive aspect is that I don't crash with this chassis. That's something at least."
The Italian added that he was finding it hard to be optimistic as Ducati had failed to progress from a disappointing start in 2011.
"We ran out of hope last year. More than hope we need a better bike," Rossi said. "But I wouldn't want to expose myself like I did last year, by thinking and hoping that the second chassis development would be an improvement.
"I tried to be a professional. When Barbera pushed me out I even considered returning to the pits, but then I stayed out in order to give our technicians some data to study so as to improve things."

lol, that's cold!!! I was talking about the gp with this german rider the other day and the guy said : Rossi! Well it's just sad it can't ride an Italian bike! lol The irony made me smile.

WSB is at least interesting, I recognize the technology and can relate it to my real world motorcycle.

yep that's how I feel. I'm slowly switching over to WSBK. This year first race wasn't bad though, if the first four can run in a tighter group, I will be buying the pass mid season.

Whoa from what Alg8r posted, it looks like the GOAT has been slaughtered!

privateer, I know what you are saying, they had there time. just like to see champs go out with win if you know what I mean .

dragking, you have to watch just in case you miss a ripper of a race, you'll be dirty on yourself.

WSBK is also now owned by Dorna the same as MotoGP, just watch them stuff it all up so gp is more successful.

They won't change WSB, if they did, people would quit buying passes and tickets. We go to these events to see bikes one step removed from the street race.

Change that formula and WSB is dead.

AMA remains true to the formula, at least. I still love to watch some guys and girls race who hold day jobs during the week. Aside from the fact I did that for 4 years when I was MUCH younger, I just like the lack of hype and bs that is so readily apparent in MotoGP and to a lesser degree in WSB.

Rossi complaining about the Ducati as an excuse why he isn't winning? Thats pretty weak.
